    INTRODUCTION

I wrote this book not only to glorify God, but also to help others in their journey with God.

I want to show that when we are in the valley, He is there.

When we are on the mountaintop, He is there.

    When we hurt, He comforts.

When things get dark, His light shines even brighter.

When we sin, He forgives when we ask Jesus for forgiveness.

God has given us all (since the beginning of time) a unique ministry; a ministry that will not only bring us closer to God, but will also fulfill His will in our life.

We can trust Jesus to be with us in our walk with Him because For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’ (Hebrews 13:5b).

God might not work exactly in your life as He did for me, but God will give you everything you need to walk your own unique journey. All you have to do is listen, trust, and obey when God calls no matter what the cost.

Always remember, Jesus died so that we can once again walk with God. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

God bless you in your journey with Him

    CHAPTER 1

I came from an average Christian home, a family of modest means. At age eighteen, I joined the air force. Without the church and my parents to help me continue in my walk, I stayed away from the things of God and decided to follow my own desires. I started to live an ungodly life, and I made ungodly friends. I even went so far as to make my best friend a fellow who owned and distributed porn newspaper and magazine racks. I even cosigned on a loan for him so he could buy a truck. However, God used the results of this event to bring me back to Him in such a way that my life would never be the same again.

You see, even though I had left God, He had not left me. In fact, not only did He not leave me, He guided me and protected me until the time when I actually had a personal encounter with Him. He changed my life forever.

I had accepted Jesus as a child. I went to church and believed that I really loved God, but I just could not see following Jesus as a teen. I now know God had other ideas for me, and this revelation is where He changed my life forever. God set the stage to bring me back to Him. Here I was in the United States Air Force with this group of ungodly friends. I had gotten orders to go to Holland. This is where the Lord had given me just enough rope to hang myself. Now He was on the other end of that rope, pulling the noose tight, and so my story begins.

God used the air force to teach me many disciplines. These included perseverance and the desire to accomplish a task under any circumstance. This training was to be very important in my ongoing journey of walking with Him. These very disciplines are the main characteristics that we all need to be God’s disciples. The air force was His means to get me to a mission field, but God had to break me first in order to bring me back to Him.

Therefore, to set the scene, I went to basic training. After basic training, I went to George Air Force Base, about ninety minutes from my home in the San Gabriel Valley. This was where I reunited with my friend, someone I had known all my life. We had gone through school and church together. Therefore, I had no problem cosigning for the loan on the truck. I found out later that he had only pretended to be my friend so he could get his truck. However, God would use him in a mighty way later, but at that time, I could not see what He was doing.

It was later when I was injured and in a hospital that another friend came in to tell me that I was the luckiest man around. I asked him why. He said, Because you have orders to go to Holland, which is the most sought-after assignment in the air force. It was clear that God wanted me there.

I soon was in Holland, still not following Jesus, but fulfilling my own earthly desires. I was only getting three hours of sleep at night because I was spending so much time at the discos. I would get up early for work, work all day, and party most of the night. Then, I would do it all again the next day.

I went in with some other people to rent a nice house on a lake. Life was good, so why would I need God when everything was so wonderful? Is not that the way things are until something happens and life takes a nosedive? My nosedive was here. My so-called friend, the one I had cosigned for, had run off with the truck. He was not making the truck payments, and they were coming after me to make them. How could I even try to find him if he was in the United States and I am assigned in Holland thousands of miles away? Shortly after, they decided to pave our runway. I received orders to go to Northern Holland, the Dutch air force base in Leeuwarden. There
