I started these sketchbooks as a toy when I was about four years old, my toys used to be my mother’s books and my color pencils, and I have been drawing every day since. I really have a good time when I look at my drawings and remember the specific time with joy and I like to use it as a reference, and like a diary. When you look at it closely, you are going to find out a lot about myself in every drawing and my history . . . .

I went to college to study physics and I really love it but didn’t have the money to continue. Later I choose another lover:, Music, and studied in college for three years to learn how to read music because I was playing guitar by ear for seven years already. I played guitar all my life, released three vinyl disc rock and three CDs rock with Anarca band, two CDs in USA with the band God’s Gift, and one CD solo rock, and two more CDs new age music solo playing piano. I love the idea to play an instrument that I don’t know tecnically, because I can only concentrate on the music. I am fifty years old now and I did college in Computer Animation at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale here in Florida for one year, and I really love it.

I have good times going to a bookstore and enjoy all kinds of drawing books. I love drawings, guitars, cello, sax, chess, mythology, astrology, my dog, any drawing book, UFO, pastel de feira de domingo, flying, pipas, marionette, asa delta, e canto de passarinhos.

I love to analyze my bad drawings, my mistakes, my scan out of focus, because these represent a development that is very important when you like to be better. I am still growing, and I believe that a good drawing always comes with a lot of bad ones . . . ahahahahah! This drawing is not the greatest, but it is my best and it is who I really am . . .

I would like to dedicate this book to my granny Assunta, my mother Irene that gave me so many pencil colors and paper when I was a child, my sister that I love so much, my brother that was like a mentor and my model , Ana, Pedrinho Ben10, Seu Pena (admiro muito), Dna Mariana, Jovita, Dede Victoria e meu Putacaramba.

My friends Libo my greatest friend, brother, and mentor; Celso Barbieri, a genius with words; Josiene my best friend ever; Seu Ze and Dna Maria; Maggy and Senor Raul; Betao and Samari; Sandy; Chanita Ardilla; Arios; Gonzalito like a son; Angie; Ramon and Patricia; Jonas; Bel; Carlos; Romana; Regina; my first-kiss girl Claudinha; Lucio; Dalam; Fabiao Xepa like a brother; GG; Leopoldo; Sergiao; Willian; Kako; Necao; Patricia; Caca; Regis; Adilson; Celeste; Lilian; Gui do Doce de Leite; Marly; Mocreia Alice my angel, Rose, CJ and Janis; Dan O’Brien; Delinda; Sonia and Suely imiticas: Dr Fudi; Dr. Nery; Edson (my drawing body); primo(as); tias e tios; Derek; Paul; Zingo; Josh Web; Lidia; Linda; M. Puerta; Sheldon; Douglas Graves; JD; Made in Brazil; Yngwie; Rusty Cooley; Vinnie Moore; Johnny Winter; Sex Pistols; Joe Pass; Faisca; Paco de Lucia; Paganini; Bach; Heitor Villa lobos, Almir Sater, Armandinho, Joseph Hydn; Tolstoi; Einstein; Tagima; Abil that help me scan the drawings; and my dog Collie.

I would like to Thank and Salute everyone that draws.

I am what I am because of these people, because of my past, and I’ll change every bit in my future, depending on the situations and the people that are going to buy this book and help me change more.

    Introduction

Any art form, to master and perfect it, will depend on lots of dedication from the artist. It’s fair to say that it is not the art that makes the artist but the artist that makes the art.

Wagner Anarca is a Brazilian living in USA for many years. He is a very talented guitar player. His career as a musician started in Brazil and spans more than thirty years. He released many albums and played on several bands. Curiously, as what happened to many guitar players, he also developed a taste for all kinds of visual arts and, particularly, a passion for drawing.

For many years, Wagner Anarca has been sketching and perfecting his drawing, and now part of his efforts can be seen here on this book.

Normally, any artist would publicize only what he considers the best works, but Wagner took a different approach. He wants to let people to see how he progressed, how he improved his technique.

He wishes to inspire people of all ages to draw and not to be limited by their lack of technique. To draw is a relaxing and pleasurable activity, good to the body and also to the soul.

The Britannica Concise Encyclopedia defines drawing as art or technique of producing images on a surface, usually paper, by means of marks in graphite, ink, chalk, charcoal, or crayon. It is often a preliminary
