About this ebook
Jacksonville, FL – (December 7, 2004) – Every so often there comes along a poet who chisels his words out of an unforgettable experience, a rare event in his life that left him forever changed. When Kermite Bristow, gifted in the expression of the beautiful, was chosen to be an Olympic torchbearer, he was inspired to create wonderful poetry now comprising his new book, A Torchbearer’s Salute to 100 Years of Olympic Spirit.
This poetry anthology—perfectly worded, exquisitely realized—tells of true-life stories of Olympic heroes. Written in rhyme, it explores the Olympics down through the ages and the people involved. About the Author
Kermite Harvey Bristow was born in Syracuse, New York on January 25, 1953. Raised by parents James and Hattie, he is the oldest of his siblings. Three things that he enjoyed as a teenager and that he aspired to be involved with the rest of his life was the following: People and the community, Learning about History, local and global and running.
And…not necessarily in that order. For his running in middle and high school up until the present thirty years later, helped him to focus as well as initiating self-esteem and motivation.
It was not until after high school and marriage and raising a son that things started to excel in Kermite’s life. In order to motivate his son to be responsible and give back to the community, he would take himself and his family and involved them too as he worked through over a decade of community services. Events like running in the cold upstate New York winters to benefit the American Heart Association. He began to organize groups for walking and running. Then he started collecting money for homes for battered women, homeless shelters, children’s homes and veteran’s hospitals. These were some of the many charities documented that Kermite enjoyed doing.
In the eighties his city and his model agency Guild Fashionata (Kermite was in model/acting business in US and Canada for over 16 years) awarded him Model of the Year
for year 1986-1987. It was an award he received for combining model professionalism and community service as was announced in the Syracuse Newspapers.
So thrilled was Kermite about receiving this award, that when modeling in Canada, he did the same volunteer work there. Later in time he encouraged and helped raise money to benefit a children’s hospital in
