    Prologue

    My Heart

There in that garden of despair

You came into my heart like a rich pink rose

    You illuminated me

Then in that forlorn desert, drank I from your oasis

The rich cup of your graceful heart,

The grace cup for solitude; goodbye to filth

    So Glad I received you,

My H, my Heart, My husband

Your rose remains in my heart.

—A tribute to my husband and my Lord

    Preface

    Heb 5:11-6:1

11    Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12    For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13    For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14    But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. KJV

The above passage was written to people who had known Christ for some time. They had been taught the ‘first principles of the oracles of God’ but then they needed to be taught these again. They could not make progress in their faith because they did not have a good grasp of the first principles [elementary teachings]. In any body of knowledge, there are usually first principles without which one cannot advance in it. In Mathematics for example, the numbers are first taught. When one has learnt these very well then the various signs of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are taught. It is upon these basic principles among others that Mathematics is built. There is no way one can learn to solve fractions without the above foundation. Another illustration is the fact that one has to pass through the primary or elementary school before secondary school and so on.

The word of God also has first principles. These are the elementary doctrines of Christ. These must be the first lessons of the newborn child of God. He must grasp these else his faith will continue to have fault till he dies. ‘If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’
