Maluhia, The Happy City - Mabel Katz

    pag00_h.jpg

I dedicate this book to all those young people and adults who are looking for the secret to be happy and live peacefully.

    Introduction

There is a city where all the people are happy, a special place that it is visited by thousands of tourists in search of its secret. It is called Maluhia, a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, lush natural beauty and access to the sea. The people of Maluhia have learned that happiness is an individual choice, and the way to that happiness is through the ancestral practice of this ancient Hawaiian art called Ho'oponopono.

In the following pages, you will discover the magic of Maluhia and its people, illustrated by inspiring stories for children and adults. Most are taken from real life stories told to me by: my teacher Dr. Ihaleakalá Hew Len, some of my students, others have been shared in seminars I have taught around the world, and some are drawn from my own personal experiences.

Some may doubt the reality of these charming stories. Believe me I understand. Before my awakening I did not believe in anything that I could not see or touch. After twelve years with Dr. Ihaleakalá Hew Len, who taught me to open my mind and become more humble, I realized that I did not know as much as I thought.

Life is a search, and we’re all looking for the same thing Happiness, Peace and Freedom. When we decide to be happy and at peace with ourselves, we can create happy children, families and communities. Happy children create happy businesses and economies. Undoubtedly, this is the only way to change the world, and create real wealth for all humanity.

The city of Maluhia is a great example of the difference that we can make on this planet by simply choosing to be happy, self-confident and loving. By accepting ourselves the way we are and accepting others as they are. By realizing that we are unique beings with innate talents, who have an important mission in life we each must fulfill. We must stop looking outside of ourselves and comparing ourselves to others. We can choose to live fulfilling lives.

The great Albert Schweitzer said: Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will succeed.

It is imperative that we do what we love, and set that example for our children. Children do not always listen to us, but they do observe us.

I think the secret to happiness and peace in the world, is in each of us knowing who we are and what we are here for. We must trust in ourselves and discover the power we have within to change our lives.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, Self-trust is the first secret of success.

We are never alone in our journey to achieve happiness; there is a whole universe that supports us, a universe we cannot define, touch or see. We must remember that what we are looking for comes from that universe. Now is the time to remember who we are and what our role is in the universe.

This is a time of great awakening. Let’s stop harming ourselves so much and practice gratitude and forgiveness. Let us give thanks for what we have rather than focusing on what we think we need. Take 100% responsibility for our lives.Understand that to forgive others and ourselves is a way to open the door to happiness and prosperity. We need to learn to listen to our inner voice and let go of the beliefs and judgments that prevent us from achieving our dreams. Choosing to be happy is more important than always trying to be right.

Peace begins with ME. Peace within is world peace This is my world peace campaign and I am convinced, at heart, we can achieve it...

    CHAPTER 1

Your Story Depends On YouYour Story Depends On You

Spring had arrived in its full splendor, and the streets of Maluhia were crowded with visitors. Blooming flowers created a rainbow of colors, painting the sidewalks in shades of blue, purple, red and yellow. The roads were filled with trees emitting the most pleasant aromas, and the joyful birdsongs created a musical feast for the ears. This season was truly a delight for all the senses.

Maluhia is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains, with access to the sea. The people of Maluhia knew that the bright spring weekends would bring many visitors.

Eleven-year-old Unihipili was prepared for this. He summoned all of his young tour guides to Central Square very early on Saturday morning. Unihipili had a great responsibility for someone of such a young age. He was in charge of training the children of Maluhia to welcome tourists who came to their town in search of its secrets, of why absolutely all of its natives were completely happy.

That Saturday morning, a dozen young boys gathered to listen to Unihipili’s final instructions. Instructions he had already discussed with Aumakua, the wise grandfather and teacher of all teachers in the entire region.

Unihipili spoke to his troop of young guides with great enthusiasm, Our mission is to have fun as we share the beauty of Maluhia with our visitors. Here are the maps you may give to them, and a summary of our stories. You all know your posts and your routes. Remember that this is a great opportunity and nothing that happens today is a coincidence. Repeat the key words ‘Thank you, I love you’ to yourselves during these hours of fun and sharing. Now before we go, let's all enjoy the delicious fruits the farmers brought for us. Thank you all!

They ran toward the delightful fruits and juices with laughter and camaraderie. Passing neighbors smiled and waved to them from afar. Once they had finished their delectable feast, the boys scattered throughout the town to greet its visitors.

Unihipili remained in the Central Square, as that was his post, and took a moment to chase away the doves that had gathered.

Fly freely, friends! Unihipili yelled, as he chased them away.

Just then Unihipili saw a couple walking toward the square, so he approached them with a warm welcome.

Unihipili cheerfully said, Good morning! Thanks for visiting us!

A women, who appeared to be about 50 years of age replied, Hello young man. We were told that we could find someone by the name of Unihipili around here. Do you know him?

Yes, he said, I am Unihipili.

Her curious companion asked, Are you the only Unihipili of Maluhia?

Unihipili mentally repeated the words, ‘Thank you, I love you’ as he replied, I am the Unihipili you are looking for. Tell me, how can I help you?

The couple exchanged looks of astonishment, and then professed their interest in meeting the wise man of the region.

They said, We have heard that only Unihipili can take us to him.

Unihipili replied, Come with me, we shall see if Aumakua has something to say. But I don’t guarantee that this is a good time.

Anxiously, the man and woman followed Unihipili through the narrow and steep flower-lined streets, until they arrived at a small house with a lovely garden. From a distance they see an old man with a peaceful face resting on the porch. The boy hurried toward him and whispered something into his ear. Aumakua sat up in his chair and stared at the couple for several seconds, as if he were looking beyond them.

He gestures them to approach him, and immediately began to utter words that flowed slowly and very clearly. The visitors listened with astonishment.

Nothing happens by chance or by accident, Aumakua spoke. Everything is perfectly orchestrated to happen as it happens when it happens. Last night, you went to dinner at the luxurious restaurant in your neighborhood, and you both ordered the same fish dish.

The woman asked hesitantly, How did you know that?

Aumakua replied, I know many things. But the most important is that you understand, nothing that happened last night occurred by chance. Those fish were waiting long before you arrived at the restaurant, or sat at that table and asked to eat them. Nothing happens by chance.

Aumakua paused for what seemed like a long time. He continued to look at the couple as if he were looking though them.

Astonished, the male visitor dared to ask another question, You mean that in life, everything is written?

Aumakua replied in a soft and sincere voice, Life is a great theater play and we are the actors, each in our own role, in our own character. Each of us is interpreting our own character and we're writing our own stories.

Confused by Aumakua’s answer, the man asked, "But if everything is written, if our destiny is marked,
