    FOREWORD

The story of Sela’an-Linau is based on our work experience and engagement with local communities and other stake-holders of the forest management unit. We would like to give acknowledgement of the contributions from members of both forest management and peace mission teams.

We would also like to acknowledge the contributions from officers of Sarawak Forestry Corporation / Sarawak Forest Department / Wildlife Conservation Society Malaysia and local community leaders.

All of them have shown passion and commitment to ensure Sela’an-Linau forest management unit became a show case of responsible forest management by a private company, government agencies and non-profit organization working together with local communities.

We are grateful to many people we met and whom have become our close friends during our personal journey in the area. Our sincere thanks go to all of them and special appreciations to our sebila (true friend) in the local community.

This book is dedicated to the memory of late headmen, Pelutan Tiun and Kelasau Naan; and our mentors, James Foh, SK Chan and Dr. Khoo KJ who are no more with us.

To all of them, we would like to dedicate the following quotation:

"Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not." Robert Kennedy (1925-1968)

Last but not least, our heart-felt thanks to our beloved family for their support and blessing when we embarked on this journey.
