Kenya’s magnificent Tsavo East National Park (dubbed the ‘Theatre of the Wild’), together with Tsavo West National Park (‘Ancient Land of Lions and Lava’), forms one of Africa’s most important biodiversity hotspots. But it’s also part of an even larger ecosystem that includes Mkomazi National Park in northern Tanzania. We talked to Jacob Kipongoso, executive chair of the Tsavo Heritage Foundation, about efforts to protect this vast but threatened wilderness.
Q What is the mission of the Foundation?
The Foundation hopes to innovatively restore and conserve the Tsavo-Mkomazi ecosystem and dispersal areas for sustainable community livelihoods.
