Ape in Heels - Christiane Keumo
To you the reader, Thank you!
Once upon a time, there was a land called Apeland. It could be found in a massive greenwood forest, far away from any human houses, cities, or towns.
There were no roads in Apeland. No cars, no buses. None of the things that people see every day. There were houses, though. The apes had houses up in the trees.
Some of these houses were fancy. Others were very dull. They all had large banana leaves for the tops, as well as windows and doors and rope ladders that led up into them.
A young, white ape was sitting inside of one of the treehouses. He looked up, surprised, and then addressed you, the reader, Hello. How are you? I should probably give you a warm welcome. Warm welcomes are always the best thing to give in Apeland.
The young white ape hurried over to a window. He pointed far, far outside of it.
The young white ape asked, Do you see all of that? That’s Apeland! And those are my friends!
Outside, the residents of Apeland were moving about. As you might have guessed, they were all apes. But there was something very special about the apes who lived in Apeland.
They were all wearing high heels!
We have so much fun together,
said the young white ape.
Everyone did, in fact, look like they were having fun.
From the youngest ape in heels to the oldest ape in heels, Apeland was a true paradise. Everyone lived happily. They worked, talked, played, and laughed together.
The young apes swung from the trees. The old apes walked on the ground. The greenwood forest was truly the best home that any ape could ask for.
The young white ape said, it’s amazing out there, isn’t it? I haven’t seen many of my friends today, but I know that they’ll stop by eventually.
The sunlight bounced off of the leaves and came through the branches. It dappled the ground that the apes walked on. The high heels that they were wearing made odd clicking sounds as they went.
We’ve lived out here for a very long time,
said the young white ape. He jumped out through the window, hooking one big hand around the branch outside and using it to swing into another tree. Longer than I’ve been alive! Probably longer than you’ve been alive, too.
From the second tree, the young white ape dropped down onto the ground. His high heels thumped on the hard dirt. They were bright red and stood out very nicely against his white fur.
The other apes wore high heels in various colors. Some of them wore high heels that were blue. Others wore high heels that were yellow. Some had glittering high heels on. Others had high heels with bows, or stripes, or even polka dots.
The other thing that all of the apes in heels had in common was the fact that they were all smiling. They were smiling and laughing and enjoying life.
Everyone’s happy here,
said the young white ape. I’m going to go try and find some of my friends. I bet they’re going to be happy too!
With that, the young white ape ran off in search of his friends. Apeland was a very large place and many apes lived there. The young white ape had many friends, but today he was looking for someone specific.
The ape in rainbow high heels!
The young white ape and the ape in rainbow high heels were the very best of friends. They had been best friends for a very long time and they loved to play together.
The ape in rainbow high heels lived on the very outskirts of Apeland, so that’s where the young white ape decided to go:
To the very edge of town, where there were only a few houses around.
The ape in rainbow high heels lived far away from the others. His treehouse was extra low to the ground and surrounded by a great field of flowers. The flowers were bright yellow and white and they smelled extra sweet.
As the young white ape passed them, he plucked a handful of flowers to give to his friend.
When the young white ape was close enough to the treehouse, he called out, Hello? Are you home? I didn’t see you out in town today, Rainbow Heels! I came to see if you were feeling alright!
Rainbow Heels peeked out of the window. He shouted, Go home, Young Ape! Quick, before they see you!
The young white ape – Young Ape, as his friends called him – looked around. "Before
