Author

Leo J Myles

From an early age, I was drawn to seek the living God through the guidance of godly parents in a small town on Newfoundland. After finding my wife, I was brought face to face with the Bible which served to draw me to God like steel is drawn to a magnet. Throughout my life I have seen, many times in retrospect, the sovereignty of God guiding my life across Canada. Living on Vancouver Island with my wife Pamela and my two sons Mark (wife Keely) and Matthew and three wonderful grandchildren (Levi, Dexter, and Talitha) nearby, I can say I have been blessed! I attend a full gospel church where I have had opportunity to preach the Word and lead worship and praise. I look forward to the life I have left, because Christ's guiding hand will always cause us to triumph!

The King James Version of the Scripture is used throughout the book but with words such as thee, thy, thine, thou, etc., being substituted with you, your, yours, etc. This has been done to try and help the reader dispense with any confusion surrounding meanings of words used during the translation of the Bible for King James. THE SWELLING OF JORDAN IN THE LAND OF PEACE

    (Jeremiah 12:5)

If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, wherein you trust, they wearied you, then how will you do in the swelling of Jordan?

    Introduction

Every doctrine of the church should be searched out and verified by scripture and not merely by some man’s opinion. From this vantage point, one should work towards understanding what appears to be of a more obscure nature in the word of God.

If there is any doctrine of the church that even one scripture clearly refutes, then we need to be mature enough to disregard that doctrine and count it from then on as heresy. That may be strong words, but what else would you call it?

Too often we’ve seen the divisive results of people who just nibble on the outer edges of the Word of God, and not on the whole stay of bread. They find a scripture that suits their heart attitude and, from then on, they see themselves as the only ones that have a handle on the truth. Sad to say, but many follow this type of leader.

    (2 Timothy 4:3,4)

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

    (2 Peter 2:1,2)

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that brought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And MANY shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of TRUTH shall be evil spoken of.

    (2 Timothy 2:15)

Study to shew yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

When one has been taught to believe in and govern his life by (supposed) truth, over a period of time, these doctrines become deeply implanted within the person’s character. To offer truth that leads down a different pathway can be difficult to receive because the one offering this new gospel is often seen as wanting to destroy the very foundation upon which an immense religious structure has been built. To embrace the truth is to also see that the superstructure that once seemed infallible has in fact been built with presumption, and man’s wisdom. Many cult members reject out of hand any such notion without really analyzing through prayer and study of the scriptures what is being presented. I pray dear reader that you are not of such but are rather as the Bereans that daily searched the scriptures to see if these things were so. (Acts 17:11)

We need not fear any scrutiny of our beliefs in the Word of God; for if our beliefs are built upon the bedrock of Scripture, they cannot be overthrown by man or devil.

    (Matthew 24:35).

Heaven and earth shall pass away, Jesus said, but My Word shall not pass away.

If our beliefs are built upon something (or someone) other than scripture, then we had better pray and ask God to have mercy on us, show us our mistakes and heresies so that we can drop them like hot coals, and run to get the CLEAR truth of Scripture.

Sometimes we tend to forget that Jesus said that He would send another Comforter (Greek: Parakltos - Advocate, Helper) and that He would abide with us forever (John 14:16). Jesus said also that this Comforter is the Spirit of Truth and that He (the Spirit of Truth) shall be in us and He (the Spirit of Truth) would teach us ALL things (John 14:17,26).

    (1 Cor. 2:12)

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

God did not write His Word in a way that would cause confusion, nor does His Word contradict itself, as so many would affirm. If the Word of God seems to be in contradiction, it could be that the one reading it is not born-again, or it could be that the reader looks no further than the English he reads it in.

    Remember:

    (1 Cor. 2:14)

The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God, neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.

The English language has many words that can mean any one of numerous meanings. If we are diligent to investigate the words in question through the aid of a concordance (where we can find the Hebrew or Greek word and from there ascertain the correct meaning), we will find there truly is no confusion. I also realize that some Scripture may, even then, be difficult to understand. If our hearts are sincere before God, and we ask Him by His Holy Spirit, we’ll find He is faithful to reveal His truth to us.

I recall on one occasion being asked, Who here likes to hear unpleasant truth?. I immediately shot my hand heavenward. I noticed that I was alone, except for one or two others. A dear brother looked at me with a puzzled look and said, You like to hear unpleasant truth?. Yes, I said, if it is the truth, I want to hear it!

Why? Because Jesus said, "…I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life…" (John 14:6), and I want to know HIM more.

We need to know that all truth will not be pleasing to us. When Jesus said, "Unless you eat my body and drink my blood, you have no life in you", many of His disciples turned back from following Him and said, This is a hard saying; who can hear (receive) it? (John 6:60).

They could not receive this word of Jesus because it cut against the grain of their beliefs, and they wanted to keep their planting intact. They did not want to address the issues Jesus was raising with an open heart for fear of having to uproot some things in their own lives, and change. We all know that change can be difficult to deal with, but let’s remain teachable.

    (Luke 3:9)

And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.

We need to see the seriousness of the situation; for if we intend to make heaven our home, we cannot hold onto teachings that are contrary to the clarity of the Word of God. We are on this earth for a relatively short period of time when compared to eternity and we need to remind ourselves constantly of what shall be on the morrow. For WHAT IS YOUR LIFE? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

John Bunyan, writer of The Pilgrim’s Progress, likened our life on earth to a pilgrimage during which every pilgrim encounters an enemy that tries to distract, deceive, and destroy them. John Bunyan was right, for this enemy of your soul will stop at nothing to destroy your life, and he will use anything or anyone to accomplish his destructive task. We need to realize that this is not some sort of game that will ultimately end with our being snatched away regardless of how we live our lives. This conflict rather requires us to be mature and disciplined.

    (1 Peter 5:8)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.

With this book I have endeavored to shed some light on the times we are living in. Throughout Scripture, this time is referred to as the last days. I pray that this book will serve to sound an alarm and cause the people of God to stand boldly, faithfully and confidently upon the only solid ground known to man, Jesus Christ.

If I have offended a dear brother or sister with this endeavor, I pray that you can forgive me, and know that I truly do love you with the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. I sincerely ask you to seek God and ask Him to show you THE TRUTH.

    (Matthew 13:11)

Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.

    (Rom.16:19)

…I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

    (1Cor.:14:20)

Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

    Chapter One

    Sowing and Reaping

The wisdom of God far surpasses our own, and all around us He has set out profound truths in His creation locked up in simple everyday life. Jesus utilized this when revealing to those closest to Him the gospel. One thing is certain, Jesus always reveals truth, for He is The Truth (John 14:6), and we must realize that Jesus will reveal truth to anyone for He is no respecter of persons. He requires only that our hearts be teachable and our ears open to receive what He would speak to us.

Jesus said, "It IS given to YOU to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven". It does not matter how much schooling (professional or otherwise) you’ve had, or how rich or poor you are, the promise of God remains the same for every soul that will take His Word to heart and act upon it. I pray your heart would be enlarged to receive this simple truth because before this life is over, you will need every piece of bread you can get from the Master’s table.

When a farmer wants a crop of wheat, he doesn’t sow his field with corn seed. This reasoning may seem somewhat simple to you, but it is profoundly true.

    (Galatians 6:7)

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.

Harvest time isn’t usually in the thoughts of a farmer during seed time, he is applying himself to the task at hand. In much the same way, we don’t think that every idle (Greek: Kargos- unprofitable, useless) word that we speak has to be accounted for in the day of judgment (Matt. 12:36). Scripture bears out that we will give an account not just for our words, but also for our actions. We tend to separate consequences from actions, and so walk as mere men.

Newton’s third law of motion says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For every cause there is an effect. If you were to jump into a pool of water, you would cause a rippling effect that would extend out from you until it was encountered with a wall, or simply ran out of energy. You may think your actions only affect you, you may think you are an island, but like the rippling waves, your actions touch all that come in contact with them. And your actions will serve to minister life, or death.

Contrary to what I was taught as a child, there is no purgatory, nor is there any middle ground where you can go and say, Leave me out of this conflict of flesh and spirit, of good and evil, of the children of God and the children of the devil, I want no part of it. Regardless of whether you believe it or not, whether you like it or not, you are involved, and you are a key player in it.

    (Ephesians 6:10-13)

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles (schemes) of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high (heavenly) places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

On us as Christians (singular), and as a group (the Church), hangs the destiny of the nations. To us has been given the ministry of reconciliation.

    (2 Cor.5:18)

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.

And through this ministry, whole nations can and have been turned to God. This is not a time to be at ease in Zion, but rather it is a time for each and every Christian to get involved and become what God has intended for each one to be. God has a divine plan and a divine purpose for your life, and you will NEVER know peace until you commit your life to being what HE has planned for you to be.

{I} GROUNDED AND ROOTED - Where are you?

    (Ephesians 3:17-19)

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that ye may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Here we see God’s purpose in being grounded and rooted.

What are your roots planted in? Where is your security? Whether you know it or not, whether you believe it or not, your life is deeply rooted in something or someone, and this is where you feel secure. In today’s society, that could mean money in the bank, the stock market, real estate, or any one of a host of others.

Unless your roots are steadfastly fastened upon the bedrock of the Word of God which is Jesus Christ (John 1:14), the storms of life that even now are growing in their intensity will uproot and overthrow you. Everything you have faith in, outside of Jesus Christ, will be overthrown.

    (Luke 3:9)

And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn (cut) down and cast into the fire.

The question you need to ask yourself is, What will be left after the fire of God has gone through my life? Will there be anything but ashes?

    a) For any plant, tree, shrub, flower, etc. to grow and become mature (that stage of development where the plant reaches full potential), it has first to be planted in soil that provides the proper nutrients needed to sustain growth. How can we expect a plant to reach maturity if it is underfed and malnourished, or if its soil contains elements that are detrimental to its own well-being?

Christians sometimes remind me of the ancient Bedouins (desert nomads) that lived in deserts and adapted to the environment in order to remain alive. This meant moving continually with the rainy seasons. Wherever there was a shower of rain, the Bedouins were there.

Unfortunately, there are draw-backs to this type of lifestyle, for if we were to bring this example into the Christian realm, we can clearly see that anyone that would uproot and move every time a season changed, they would have little or no opportunity to bloom and mature.

God is the one that brings season changes to bear in our lives, and we need to see Him as a wise husbandman (gardener) who alone understands the exact environment to have His people in at any given time. Remember, in order to bloom, you first need to be planted.

    (John 15:4)

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me.

    (Proverbs 16:9)

A man’s heart devises his way: but the Lord directs his steps.

    b) Sunlight is another integral part of a plant’s growth and maturity.

    (Psalm 119:105)

Thy (God’s) Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

    (Psalm 119:130)

The entrance of Thy Word gives light; it gives understanding unto the simple.

    The implication
