Introduction

There are so many women around the world suffering silently (and not so silently) from fibroids. Our fibroid sisters, as I lovingly refer to the women in this community, are losing their time, themselves, and their lives to this condition.

I never imagined I would be a part of this community, I hardly knew what those buggers were! But one day I found myself in this world and suddenly everything made sense: the tiredness and weakness, the extended bleeding, the pain. Yet, in the same vein, so many things were confusing. How would I treat this or could I even treat this? How do I manage my new life? How do I live?

Somehow my journey brought me to UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization). It wasn’t easy getting to that point nor was it easy even after I found out about the procedure but it was the option I chose and it came into my life at the right time for me.

This book shares parts of my journey but I present it in a way that you can learn from my experience. There are tips on these pages to help you as you approach your UFE procedure and help for your recovery period.

My journey wasn’t easy and I think it’s important to share that because so often we encounter people who make things look perfect. Blame it on our need to show our best selves all the time, right? But this book isn’t about that, it’s about giving you the tools to face UFE and come out on top.

If you are a part of someone’s support team reading this book, thank you. It’s not easy understanding what fibroids are like. Thank you for taking the time to try.

Lastly, my beautiful fibroid sister, I hope this book helps. You don’t have to choose UFE to win your fight, you have options for your life and your body. If you do choose this path, as someone on the other side I can say at this moment I am smiling and happy. I’m doing better than I was before.
