    Origins

A sunset stretches across the sky, showering the land in soft heartwarming colour. The feeling of a deep summer evening fills the air as clouds lined with silver swirl across the infinite sky, soft as candy floss at a seaside carnival. A sweet scent danced in the air, coconut? maybe bubblegum or marshmallows. Whatever your heart's desire, it would be granted by this evening's magic. Not a bird or bug insight in this beautiful scene, just the sounds of the ocean waves sliding alongside each other. Colliding and separating, displaying a glittery reflection of the sky... below. A beautiful but uncanny sunset.

Slowly the clouds begin to part with a stain of solemn black in the center of our perfect scene, gradually corrupting the clouds around it one by one. A feeling, strange in nature, can be felt in the atmosphere as the clouds shift and spiral around the epicenter of darkness in the sky. Small streams of lightning surging within, breaking through and piercing everything around them. A deep hollowing voice can be heard in the distance, echoing along the winds.

    Sky voice : Noooooooo!!!!!!!

At this point a slight break starts to form in the middle of the clouds, a crack of white opens up with a tiny beam of light. They begin to part, and something small and seemingly insignificant falls through. Upon a deeper look it appears to be a girl peacefully asleep, shooting towards the ground below like rain, unaware of her fall. Her eyelids slowly twitch with discomfort for a moment then open, revealing eyes pink and purple as the sunset above. She stretches, letting out a deeply satisfying yawn with no care in the world, unaware of what's happening. But then she looks down. Shock hits her face as she realises her situation and her eyes fully whip open with panic.

    Girl:  Aaaaah!!!

The girl flaps her arms desperately like a bird to try to slow herself down but it makes no difference, she continues to fall to the ground with no hope.

Boom! Just then a flash appears from above and a tiny glowing ball of light splits the clouds. Hurtling down from the sky to meet the doomed girl. It slows just as it meets her to help. Trying to save her quickly it grabs her hair with its stubby little hands but she’s too heavy and moving too fast. The hair in its hands rip, and she starts to fall again.

    Girl : Ouch… Aaaah!!!

The young girl continues to fall to earth. Our little light attempts to get close to her again, this time trying to make contact and maybe communicate, but her hands are covering her face in terror. She feels the doom of the flat ground beneath on its way to meet her, and she didn't want to see it happen. It pushes her hands away from her face and she makes eye contact with her tiny hero for the first time.

Girl:  Oh my god! Get away from me!

She’s shocked by the sight of a little light ball staring back at her and kicks him away. Flapping her arms at him as she continues to bowling ball her way towards the ground.

Not settling, our tiny hero has an idea and reaches behind his back, pulling out a small golden wand. Short in length but large compared to him, it had a glowing orb attached big enough that it was confusing how he had it hidden. Almost like it could disappear into thin air. With a light flick of his arm he waved it, creating little sparkles of light that hung in the air like leaves in the wind. There was a slight pause for dramatic effect, then from above, in the clouds a small piece breaks apart from the others. Forming into a singular shape, the cloud launches in the girl's direction, zipping past our smug little light ball who was at this point very proud of himself. It met her almost instantaneously. The cloud catches her, nestling her like a soft duvet. On their descent it slows towards the ground, coming to a halt just an inch above the surface gracefully. Suddenly the little cloud tips her onto the land below. She lands flat on her face and it slowly moves away as the little light ball lands next to her, feeling happy with himself. The girl picks her head up, her giant afro of curls in a mess covering her eyes. Looking down she feels around the ground in disbelief, sinking her hands into the sand, surprised and relieved she survived the fall. She shifts her hair and shapes it away from her face as she sits up revealing her hero looking directly into her eyes from one. Centimeter. Away.

    Light : Hi.

    Girl : AAAhh!

She gets to her feet in a haste, swatting at it with her hands. Terrified, she runs away hysterically. The little light, thinking it was a game, floats along following her as he notices she's running in circles on the small island they were standing on that was at most ten strides wide. After a few minutes she tires and comes to a stop, placing her hands on her knees in exhaustion to catch her breath. The little creature lands next to her smiling, excited by the game. Without warning she turns towards him angry in a fighting stance causing the little light jump back, shaking behind his wand. Noticing how small and scared he was, she slowly lowered her hands.

Girl: ... You're not dangerous, are you?

    Light : No.

She sits on the floor tired, with the tiny creature across from her. A small glowing ball, not unlike a circular dimly lit light bulb with stubby arms that you couldn’t imagine being able to pick up anything. He had enormous feet, and a small purple damaged top hat sat on top of his head. But the most notable thing about him were his large eyes that took up the majority of his face, piercing baby blue in colour staring back in her direction.

Girl: I’m sorry, I won't hurt you dont be scared. Did you… Did you just help me?

    Light:  Yes, Oyo help.

She looks around and takes her surroundings in for the first time, seeing the beautiful scene that had escaped her attention during the fall. It was strange, gentle waves crashed along the shoreline but the sun seemed to be beneath them, setting underneath the horizon reflecting into the waves of the ocean above it. Upon further inspection there also seemed to be clouds floating through the ocean peacefully as if they were in the sky above. Surely this island wasn’t above the clouds? No, it was more like the scene was upside down. Confused, She reaches down and picks up a handful of sand, allowing it to blow away in the light breeze.

Girl:  It's like sugar powder, this is weird. Where am I? And how was I falling from the… Oh I get it, this is a dream. My imagination comes up with some wild things sometimes but I've outdone myself. This… This is beautiful, and I needed a holiday.

    She turns back to him.

Girl:  Come to think of it, you're kinda cute, I'm digg’in the little witch hat and wand look. You've got a little fairy vibe going but I'm pretty sure you're a dude, very progressive. You wanna come with me?

    The little hero nods.

Girl : I'm Yazmine by the way Yaz for short, Yazzy Jazzy, can you say Yaz?

    Oyo:  Yaz!

Yazmine : Good, and yours was Oyo right? I think you mentioned, Thanks for the save by the way. See, I feel like we're homies already.

She gives him a brief smile then looks down at the small island they found themselves on, noticing they were only a short step away from an entire beach.

Yazmine : ... Sigh, I wish I noticed that earlier. Now i feel stupid, but oh well. I'm hungry, didn’t I have some…

She reaches her hand down into her pocket and ruffles around.

Yazmine:  There we go, I knew I had sweets left.

Yazmine takes her hand out of her pocket and opens it but instead of there being the sweets she intended, three fire flies lay in her open palm, purple, blue and red in colour. She stared at them for a moment confused before they suddenly took off, drifting along the breeze and into the sunset.

Yazmine:  ... Well I won't even pretend that made any sense but ... ok. You know Oyo, I'm not that annoyed that the blueberry flavour flew away but the grape and strawberry? That's just disrespectful, those are my favourites. Sigh, let's go, we might as well look around.

They walk together along the beach, noticing a large dark forest inland that appeared to carry a distinctly blue glow.

Yazmine : I don't like the look of that, we're definitely not going over there. I'm getting serial killer vibes just from looking at it and you're pretty small, I don't think you’ll be that good if there’s real danger. I better keep you safe.

They continue to walk along the endless empty shoreline, looking around at their surroundings. After a while they come to a stop.

Yazmine:  We can't just keep walking with no direction. There must be a reason I'm here… Ok, the best way to figure things out is to speak to someone to get some information about this place, like a tour guide. Sooooo In short, we need people.

Oyo begins pointing with his little arms. Floating in circles, desperately trying to get her attention.

Yazmine:  Not now Oyo, I'm trying to figure something out. Ok if we try to go back to the ocean we’ll probably get lost in five mins and i can't swim well. I see no tracks on the beach, so that means nobody else has come along here in a while… Maybe there's a town or city nearby. No that’s stupid, this is a remote island with a murder forest, people don’t live here hmmmm.

Oyo grabs Yazmine by the hand and pulls her towards the place he was trying to point at before. She looks in the direction he's dragging her towards and sees a little unassuming cottage at the other end of the beach overlooking the water.

She starts to run towards it, Oyo following shortly behind, floating along. As she gets closer, she notices what seems to be an old man walking around outside the cottage. His arms folded behind his hunched back, his short legs scurrying under his oversized jacket. The strange thing about the old man was that he seemed to be dressed in a wooden costume from head to toe with his jacket over the top of it, his eyes yellow with the warm glow of a lamp.

    Yazmine:  Why is
