    Introduction

    I want to welcome you to this juncture of your mental and emotional wellness journey. Thank you for purchasing this book. My hope is that you are able to incorporate these principles into your life, begin to prioritize your mental health, and improve your overall mental and emotional wellness. No matter where you are in life, the emotional wellness journey requires intentional effort.

    You may be feeling overwhelmed by the demands of your life. You may feel like you don’t have time for self-care, and you may be used to putting other people’s needs before your own needs. Maybe you don’t even think about your mental health or understand the importance of mental health. You may even struggle with feelings of sadness, and you may not feel like the best version of yourself. All you know is that you need to make a change, but you don’t know where to begin. You just know that you don’t feel fulfilled.

    Let me encourage you. Mental and emotional wellness is a lifelong journey. It is not a thing to be conquered, but rather, it is what you need to promote wellness based on the current season of your life. You can have emotional stamina and resilience despite the challenges that life may bring you.

    As a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, I have treated thousands of patients of all ages. What I have found is that many patients struggle with maintaining their mental and emotional wellness for a number of reasons. I have had the privilege of being part of their journeys and being able to help them overcome some of the most challenging obstacles they ever will face. I encourage them to tap into their inner strength while they cultivate and create external systems to support themselves.

    I couldn’t do that without being intentional about my own mental and emotional wellness or without examining my thought processes, mental habits, perceptions, and emotions. I have to assess my routines, relationships, and environment consistently. In my own life, I have transitioned from being a person who was disconnected emotionally to becoming a person who is emotionally aware and vulnerable. I have come to learn and relearn that my mental health must be my priority because it truly
