Stories of My Existential Life - O.B. Thompson

    AUTHORS NOTES

Looking back on this collection it strikes me as overly dreary and depressing. I was recently told that the re-designed book cover for this collection looked very depressing too. I don't really know what that says about me but there we go. It's never been my intention to write poetry that can be interpreted this way but looking back at my own creative process it's easy to see why.

I would like to say that the 8 years that have passed since I first put pen to paper on the beginning of this collection have brought about a sunnier disposition on my part. But as I prepare to release another batch of new poetry into the world, it has become obvious that this is not the case.

It has been a challenging period in time for all, not just myself and it is strange to me now that so much of what's contained in this collection could so easily have been written this year as opposed to eight years ago. The same feelings of unease and loneliness still can still be traced to day to day life and we're all still angry about the same things.

Perhaps that means that the title of this collection is as appropriate as it ever was and that growing older is no assurance that those feelings will subside. I think it can also relate more generally
