About this ebook

Mary put her hand on her large round stomach. Only one month left till she and her husband would be welcoming their first baby together. It had been a tough couple of years trying to conceive and they couldn't be happier now that they were finally going to be parents.
Mary's gaze settled on the simple wooden crib that Jeremy had made for the baby.
She had a feeling he was going to be a good father, but for some reason, she still felt anxious.
For the last five years, she had tried to settle into this life. There were things about it that she loved, that she couldn't imagine changing, but then there were times when her mind wandered to Abigail.
She wondered if she'd made the right choice. Maybe Abigail had been right and the Amish were too strict. Was she doing the right thing by starting a family within the Amish community?

    Amish Mercy - Sarah Amberson

Mary watched as Abigail snuck down the path.  She bit her nails nervously, hoping on one hand that no one would spot her friend and on the other hand wishing that someone would stop her.

Please come with me, I’m begging you, we’ll have so much fun!

Abigail's words played back in Mary's memory. Of course, she was tempted to go with Abigail, but she hadn't been able to bring herself to do it.

She was engaged to get married in six months and she couldn't imagine leaving behind her parents, friends, and family.

She understood that it was easier for Abigail. She was an orphan and had been raised by her aunt.

Abigail had always been different than Mary. It had often caused a strain on their friendship but also in a way had brought them closer. They balanced each other out.

Abigail always wanted to test the rules, to push a little further than they were allowed, to go a little further than the boundaries. Mary, on the other hand, was content with the structure and the tranquility of the Amish community.

She didn’t mind tending to the little ones or helping with chores around the house. Unlike Abigail, she enjoyed her life and the things that were happening in it.

Two little lights blinked in the hazy afternoon sun; headlights, an Englishers car.

Mary had only been inside of an Englishers car three times in her life and each time she had been accompanied by her parents or an elder.

The Amish preferred their horses and buggies over the Englisher cars.

Mary could hear laughter as the door opened and Abigail slipped inside and closed the door behind her with a final thud.

The car made a squealing sound as it sped away down the street taking Mary’s friend
