Mike walked to the other side of the hall and stared around. 

The session was about to start and for some reason he had a lot of knots in his stomach. And at that point, Mike couldn’t shake the feeling that he was in for a big surprise. 

He had been invited to address a group of students on the importance of voting and good governance. 

However, the more Mike watched the hall fill up, the more anxious he became. It was weird because nothing like this had ever happened to him before and that scared him. 

His line of work made him travel a lot and give advice to people from all works of life and occupation. 

The number of students that were filling up the hall, were nothing as compared to what Mike was used to. So he couldn’t understand why he felt like he was about to go through a circus of temptations. 

There were moments where Mike wondered if one of his exes were present in the hall, especially any of those that he was forced to break up with because he thought they were crazy. 

He also prayed that there were no loan sharks in the room, as that would not only land him in trouble but be bad business for his employer.  

A reasonable person would wonder how many loans Mike was in for, and the answer to that question would be a lot. 

After the Corvid -19 pandemic hit, Mike was forced to work from home for the first few weeks and when things got tough, he and his colleagues were forced to choose between an unpaid leave or resigning from employment. 

His employers used the excuse that the pandemic had been tough on both sides and therefore, they needed to find a surplus way to survive rather than depend on them. 

Mike felt like their stance on the pandemic was so ironic as clearly all sources of employment at that time had either been flooded or non-existent. 

After taking enough time to think about it, Mike opted to take the unpaid leave option. There was honestly no difference between the two options but Mike felt like if he chose the unpaid leave then he would at least have something to fall on when things got back to normal. 

However, Mike had failed to put into consideration that the hardships of the pandemic.

He spent the first few weeks trying to survive and the rest of the months trying to hide from local shylocks and gangs in the street. 

When things got back to normal, Mike tried his best to pay some of his debts but there were still a few of them that needed more time to be cleared. 

So it was understandable that at that moment, Mike would be right to think that a few of his dealers had caught up with him and were ready to make an example. 

Mike made his way to the way to the way to podium after he was introduced by the speaker of the day. Due to the feeling that was at this point, crippling him, he figured that he would shorten his speech and run away as quickly as he could. 

As usual, Mike divided the hall into clusters before giving his speech. 

Mike called them clusters as it was how he could differentiate those who were paying attention to him from those who were clearly in class for the ride. 

The good thing was that the members in the hall all seemed to be there because they had been forced to attend his lecture. And as much as he was wrong for it, Mike was thankful, because that meant that there wouldn’t be a lot of questions thrown his way. 

Please don’t get him wrong, Mike was all about educating his peers and juniors about his line of work, however he hated the segment of questions as they were mostly intended to annoy him. 

After his presentation, Mike made his way to his seat and waited for the function to end.

Usually, he always had an excuse for such occasions, he would take moments at a time openly glancing at his watch then would excuse himself in the name of having another event that he needed to get to. 

However, in this event, the organizer kept on asking him to stay and even went to the extreme of calling his office to ensure that they understood that he was held up in another function. 

So not only was Mike forced to stay in the event, he now had to put up with the feeling that there might be someone in the crowd who was out to get him. 

After the function came to a close, Mike stayed in his seat and watched as people in the hall moved around and intermingled. His plan was to wait until the supervisor forgot that he existed so that he could make a run for it. 

The plan didn’t seem to be that effective as Mike had clearly placed himself in the middle of a war zone by seating at that table. 

As he sat waiting for his chance, Mike spotted a lady staring at him.
