Vision 2030 – Purna Swaraj
()
About this ebook
The purpose of this book, and of the 'Second Freedom Struggle' presented in and through this book, is to empower India to accept and fulfill the great global responsibility entrusted to her by history and destiny. Winning the goal of Purna Swaraj for India as envisioned by those brave people of our country who had sacrificed their lives for our political freedom is a historic imperative if India is to play effectively her destined role on the world stage.
This book is also meant to serve as a manual for a new political initiative that is needed for India to achieve the goal of Purna Swaraj. The socio-political ideology of 'Democratic Secularism' presented for the Second Freedom Struggle (Ref. chapter – 4) is a new construct. It is also a creative response to the danger of growing communalism in India today. It is to be seen as a 'stepping stone' towards the holistic socio-spiritual philosophy of 'Dharmodaya'.

Introduction
Humanity at present is going through a critical stage in its evolutionary growth. In spite of the great progresses made by the human race in a number of fields, the world today is faced with growing insecurity, poverty, hunger, injustice, exploitation, discrimination, violence and terrorism.
Though the number of millionaires in the world has been multiplying, the number of millions suffering from acute poverty and hunger all over the world has also been increasing. The all-pervading consumerist culture promotes great disparities among people all over the world. The 12 percent of the world’s population that lives in North America and Western Europe consumes 60 percent of the world’s resources, while the one-third living in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa accounts for only 3.2 percent.
Lack of attention to the needs of the poorest has resulted in greater insecurity for the prosperous and in increased spending on defensive measures. Billions of dollars are being spent every year on wars, border security, and peacekeeping by countries all over the world. The annual budget of United States Air Force can feed the poor millions all over the world for more than 5 years. Almost 65 percent of the scientists, engineers and technicians in the world today are full-time engaged in research, development, production and maintenance of weapons of mutual destruction. The nuclear weapons already stockpiled in their arsenals by the ‘advanced nations’ of the world can blow up the planet ten times over.
The consumerist model of development followed by many Governments and MNCs with a total disregard for the world’s pressing social and environmental problems is leading the planet to serious social and ecological crises.
As many as 2.8 billion people on the planet today are struggling to survive on less than $2 a day, and more than one billion people lack reasonable access to safe drinking water. 825 million people are still undernourished. India accounts for the largest number of illiterates and malnourished people and children in the world. The disparity between the rich and the poor sections of humanity is fast reaching a ‘point of no return’.
The ego-centric, pleasure-seeking and profit-motivated consumerism fuelled by ever-growing selfishness and greed has dulled the minds and hardened the hearts of people. The bewildered eyes of humanity today are desperately searching for a new hope at the distant horizons.
I believe that out of all nations in the world it is India, and India alone that can bring forth and present to humanity the seeds of a new culture of abiding peace and sustainable development on earth. The following words of the famous historian Arnold Toynbee substantiate this claim of mine: At this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only way of salvation for mankind is the Indian way. Emperor Ashoka’s and Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of non-violence, and Sri Ramakrishna’s testimony to the harmony of religions: here we have the attitude and spirit that can make it possible for human race to grow together into a single family, and in this atomic age, this is the only alternative to destroying ourselves.
The principle of non-violence and the harmony of religions are fast disappearing from the Indian soil today. Hence, the sad reality is that India at present is not at all in a position to play her destined role in the world family of nations.
The purpose of this book, and of the ‘Second Freedom Struggle’ presented in and through this book, is to empower India to accept and fulfill the great global responsibility entrusted to her by history and destiny. Winning the goal of Purna Swaraj for India as envisioned by those brave people of our country who had sacrificed their lives for our political freedom is a historic imperative if India is to play effectively her destined role on the world stage.
Though the demand for Purna Swaraj was adopted in the Lahore Congress in December 1929, it was officially promulgated on 26th January 1930. 26th January 2030 will be the first centenary of this promulgation.
It is my hope and prayer that India will be able to realize the dream of Purna Swaraj by then. Hence, the title ‘Vision – 2030: Purna Swaraj’ for this book.
The models of development adopted by the different Governments and Political Parties in Independent India have not enabled the nation to win the economic, social and moral freedoms that are yet to be won for India as pointed out by Mahatma Gandhi on 27th January 1948, just three days before he fell a victim to the bullets of a religious fanatic.
The ‘Talisman’ given by Mahatma Gandhi has to be brought back to the central stage of our developmental initiatives if we are to liberate the 300 million fellow Indians living ‘below poverty line’ from the pangs of their hunger and poverty. They are also our own brothers and sisters. They too have a rightful claim on the resources of our motherland. The last and the least have to be our focus if India is to become the ‘Purna Swaraj’ as it was envisioned by our forefathers.
Politics and economics today are integral aspects of national development. They are interdependent and interrelated. All economic decisions are political decisions and all political decisions are based on economic considerations. Both need to be spiritualized if India is to win her economic, social and moral freedoms
