    PREFACE

    The Mission Sustainable India envisages taking India that is Bharat, to a sustainable development path beginning 15 August 2022 coinciding 75 years of our political Independence from British rule. To achieve its objective, the mission recommends various structural changes and best practices. These recommendations and best practices are consolidated in various chapters after a thorough research from a group of professionals working in various sectors. All chapters are based on five dimensional Ps (Planet, People, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership).

    In the Volume-1 of the Vision Document, Chapters on UN SD Goals-2030, Objectives of the Mission, Citizenship, Governance, Bureaucracy and Judiciary have been covered. Volumes-2 to 4 of the Vision Document covers other sectors and domains.

    Starting two chapters explains What, Why and How part of the mission.

    What part is explained with starting from settled life style (Neolithic age) to contemporary world, human beings are exploiting all resources endlessly without heeding substantially for its replenishment. The chapter focus on United Nation and India is doing on various SDGs and a comparison has been made between SDGs and MDG. The essence of chapter is:

    Development must be economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally benign, equitable, resource efficient, holistic and inclusive. The chapter gives special attention on decentralization, state government role and people’s participation in achieving objectives.

    Next chapter highlights the plan of action to achieve the objectives of Sustainable India. It basically explains Why and How part of the people’s document. Key highlights to explain why to adopt sustainable practices are natural resources being limited, challenges of internal and external security, to cope with natural and manmade disaster effectively and efficiently, De-growth where growth has reached its climax, inclusiveness, decentralization, localization, circular minimal economy.

    The chapter explains organisational structure and importance of people’s participation in achieving desired objectives.

    Chapter 3 has given emphasis on Citizens, the role they should play in achieving desirable results. Key take away are citizen empowerment, awareness and education, Understanding rights and duties, alignment of duties with sustainability and awareness and training of citizens for sustainable citizenship.

    Next three chapters are very crucial for welfare of citizen and sustainability perspective. The sustainable governance chapter proposes Centrist disposition at Centre as well as four Deputy PM having charge of ministry consolidated based on peace, prosperity, people, planet with structural changes in allocation of funds based on four Ps.
