SEMISESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION Amrit MAHOTSAV OF INDEPENDENCE
“ We are fortunate that the time and the country have given us the responsibility of making this semisesquicentennial celebration a grand success. In a way, efforts will be done to make this celebration of 75 years of freedom, the semisesquicentennial celebration (Amrit Mahotsav) of independence, a festival that touches the hearts of all Indians, a festival of every Indian!”
- Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India
The pride of a nation remains alive only when it continues to pass on the legacy of self-respect and sacrifice to the next generation as well. It truly marches on the path of development only when it identifies with the pride of its past experiences and heritage. In this respect, India has vast reserves and rich history to be proud of. Taking this as the fundamental mantra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to celebrate '(Semisesquicentennial) Amrit Mahotsav' of freedom to commemorate 75 years of India's independence. The Prime Minister inaugurated the programme by flagging off the march from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi on the occasion of the completion of 91 years of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's Dandi March on March 12, 2021. This programme has been started in the country 75 weeks before the 75th anniversary of independence on August 15, 2022, and it will run until August 15, 2023. Semisesquicentennial celebrations (Amrit Mahotsava) will be launched on a large scale from August 15, 2021.
