About this ebook

You have goals, you have plans, you have a brilliant future ahead. But you also have Candy Crush, Facebook, and 1,035 unread emails that you decided now is a good time to sort. Welcome to Cristina’s brain, an entity of its own, with its own will, who’s convinced that the concept of time is an illusion and that it’s suddenly a great moment to read about it online.” If you think that you're the master of procrastination, challenge accepted! This narrative, full of insight, hilarious real-life anecdotes and imaginary scenarios, is not only a psychologically accurate portrait of the mind of a procrastinator, it's mainly highly relatable, and will certainly make you, fellow procrastinator, feel normal and understood. After a successful international tour in 2018-2019, Cristina Lark is now adapting her solo theater show "Caution: Deadline Ahead (A Comedy About Procrastination)" into this book. It contains exclusive original illustrations, and, in a (rare!) more serious note, an insightful conclusion in the end (also exclusive to the book!). Read it in a moment of procrastination, leave inspired to take action! (seriously, many people who've seen the show left shaken with a wake up call). Here are some of the reviews the show got: "Will resonate on a level you would never believe. Lark is absolutely stone-cold hilarious. She is a clever comedian at the top of her game. If nods of affirmation were applause, Lark would receive a standing ovation after every statement!” - The Fourth Wall, Perth, 2019. “Hilarious narrative. Relatable, boisterous and quick-witted. Brilliantly delivered.” - Weekend Notes, Adelaide, 2019. “Spot-on observations. Very sharp and honest. Held a mirror up to the audience. A funny and sharp look into the world of procrastination.” - Upside News, Adelaide, 2019. “A high-energy meta show, which takes audiences on a crash course through the life of a procrastinator”. - FringeFeed, Perth, 2019. "The audience has no choice but to bow down before it's new Jedi Master. Lark's a ball of fire. Guaranteed to make you feel better about yourself" - The Advertiser, Adelaide, 2018. "It's hard not to love Cristina Lark. She's a talented comedienne. A delightful speaker and a great actress" - EdFringeReview, Edinburgh, 2018. "Cristina Lark is a firecracker with a mind that moves as fast as lightning" - Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh, 2018. "Cristina Lark is more than a comedy firecracker onstage: try a full blown fireworks display. Talented and very funny. A hilarious hour that was over all too quickly". Chuck Moore Reviews, Adelaide, 2018.

    ***

This fictional infomercial was the first thing I could write when I decided I would do an hour-long solo comedy show about procrastination.

Note that I didn’t say as soon as I decided. It’s important to make this distinction. What kind of fraud would I be, writing a whole show about procrastination immediately after making the decision? Even the decision itself came 8 years after my first vague contact with the possibility of writing a solo show. Some kinds of enterprises are not immediately available to us, at least inside our minds. We hear about other people doing it, but when it comes to seeing ourselves doing it, this reality seems very distant. How does someone like me even write and tour a show? Don’t you need to be famous? Or have contacts? Or an agent? Or a solid experience in already having written similar material? Or having won a government grant? Or...

And then the thought of achieving the dream dissipates. There’s something that needs to happen first, for sure, and this something hasn’t happened yet, so we park the idea. The something, in my case, what made me see that it was possible to me, was being invited to direct someone else in a festival, and, since I was there, having the opportunity to watch a lot of other solo shows. This demystified the whole daunting idea. It showed me it’s not that complicated. And in August 2017, after coming across the Adelaide Fringe booth in the Edinburgh Fringe festival (where I finally went, but as a visitor), I said to myself: you know what? I can do it! I’m ready. This is the year when I’ll register in a festival. I’m going to Adelaide! I’m going to Australia! I had all of September to find a venue that would accept my show. So I needed a
