All God’s jokes are good – even the practical ones! And as for the duck, I think God must have smiled a bit, seeing those bright eyes blink on the day He fashioned it. And He’s probably laughing still at the sound that came out of its bill!

When my sister-in-law presented me with a Muscovy drake and four ducks of various ages, I shut them in the only available enclosure, the chicken pen. By next morning they had emptied the hens water bucket, trampled on two eggs and the drake was eyeing off several young pullets. It was time to seek enlightenment.
