Savior and Brittani - Traci B
Sierra Jones
Ihad unsuccessfully been trying to find Savior’s social media profiles ever since I got off the phone with Brittani. I even tried to find his dealership using his name as well, but nothing came up. Usually, I was a pro at finding people’s social media accounts. I even learned how to pull up certain profiles by using their photos. Back to this Savior dude, I couldn’t find nothing on him for shit. Now, I wasn’t saying my best friend was lying or anything like that but shit. Ol’ boy was flying under the radar, I see. The way Brittani described him had definitely piqued my interest. Unlike Brittani, I had plenty of time for a man. Since I was self-employed, I came up with my own work schedule. That schedule allowed me to have nothing but free time on my hands. I also didn’t give a damn about a relationship status because they could easily be changed. I loved Brittani to death, but that’s why everything in her life was going wrong because she would rather do things the right way. She didn’t want to date a man that could potentially be taken and that’s exactly why she was single now. She would’ve rather put herself in debt to get a college degree in hopes of getting a good paying
job afterwards. I guess she didn’t look at the statistics for people who were unemployed despite having a college degree. Meanwhile, I was bringing in more dough than her by doing hair out of my house. I didn’t even bother enrolling in nobody’s cosmetology school because I didn’t give a fuck about getting a hair license from the state when locals paid me. I was what most people referred to as the nonchalant friend; always had been, always would be. Brittani had always been the concerned friend. To me, she was a little bit overly concerned, if you asked me. I guess it was true when they said that opposites attract. Lord knows I love my best friend, but we were definitely living two different lifestyles. We were like night and day, oil and water. While I lived in an income restricted apartment, Brittani was living in one of those Class A apartments knowing that she hardly had the income to do so. I would say I had the money to live in those kind of apartments too, but I was the type of person to save my money for miscellaneous shit. I didn't have to live in the nicest vicinity of the city if I had to stress about how I would pay my bills every month. That was the kind of person she was. The hood raised me and the hood paid me.
Usually, I didn't do hair after 12 afternoon on Saturdays unless you were offering some serious cash. That’s the only time I made exceptions. People around Dallas called me the Hair Hustler and indeed I was. I charged salon prices despite not having an actual hair license because my quality was what you would find in a salon but even better. I had been braiding hair ever since I was ten. It was the only way I could get new clothes and new shoes to wear for school aside from the normal clothes and shoes my mom would purchase. To do your hair in general, I even required a hundred dollar deposit for all new clients. You better believe none of my clients didn't have trouble paying it either. Today, I was doing a chick name Isha's hair. She wanted the infamous Rihanna pixie cut that everyone has been trying to imitate lately. I can’t lie, I saw so many fucked up attempts of that hairstyle. I should’ve given people my business card whenever they rocked that failed ass hairstyle. At first, I was going to say no, but she offered me a $100 tip so I jumped up for it. It was the first of the month and I had just paid all of my bills, so I definitely didn't mind getting the money I had spent right back. What I liked about her is that she was very consistent too. I maybe saw her 3 times a month in my chair and I didn't believe in offering discounts but she still fucked with me. I had tried to teach Brittani how to do hair on several occasions. I wanted her to learn how to do a quick weave at least since I knew braiding hair wasn't for everybody. But no, she would much rather sell shoes and carry mothafuckas plates and cups every day. I had tried so many times to help her, but I just couldn't. Eventually, I said fuck it and let her do what she wanted to do.
My phone went off and it was Isha letting me know that she was on her way. I went inside my bedroom and gathered all the hair supplies. Luckily I only needed some hair glue, a comb, and a pair of scissors. I was happy that I didn't have to do any more braiding today because my hands were definitely aching. That was the only downside of being a full-time hair stylist, but the fast money definitely made up for it.
Less than 30 minutes later, Isha was in my chair with freshly washed hair.
What's the move for tonight? You're not bringing out the 27 piece for nothing.
I asked her while parting her thick hair.
Girl, it is date night. You know how that goes.
Sucking my teeth, I said, Shit, I wish. Date night? Must be nice!
I keep telling you what to do. My brother is single. He finally left his baby mama for good,
Isha said, like that was some shit to be proud of.
And I keep telling you even though your brother is fine, that is way too much baggage for me.
Now usually, I didn't have any restrictions when it came to dating. A taken man never bothered me because all relationships were considered to be temporary in my eyes. However, a man who left a trail of kids behind were definitely a major turn off. I didn’t have kids, so I don’t think I was a fan of dating a man with kids.
Girl, Imani only has two kids from a long-term relationship. It’s not like he put a baby in every woman he’s ever dated. Give that man some credit…and a chance.
Imani would make the perfect man to someone but not me,
I told her. That’s when it hit me about the guy Brittani mentioned earlier.
Do you know a guy by the name of Savior Davis, by the way?
I asked Isha if she knew him since my interest was still piqued in regards to him.
I don’t think so. Should I know him? Is he your new beau? Is he the reason why you won’t give my brother a shot?
She fired question after question. I don’t know why she kept pressing the issue of me and her brother. That was never going to happen.
Savior must clearly be an angel. Nobody seems to know him. My best friend mentioned him earlier. I want to know what the guy looks like. She says he owns a topnotch car dealership. Does that ring a bell?
Isha shrugged. I damn sure wouldn’t know him in that case. I’ve had bad credit since the day I was born damn near. I’ve only purchased cash cars. My cousin works in the corporate world, so I’ll ask her if she knows him.
Cool! Be sure to let me know!
I know it seemed like I was pressed over a man I had never met before but that wasn’t the case at all. Even though I was sick of being lonely, I just wanted to see if there were any Dallas men left who would be worthy of my precious
