Beginning

Kristin:

Farnaz says we are going to channel a 5,000-year-old energy entity and I’m freaking out a little bit. I don’t know much about channeling to begin with, and I really don’t know much about this Maitreya. I eventually learn that this guy is supposedly The Great World Teacher, and I’m always up for an adventure.

I find myself giggling nervously and thinking, how did I get in this room with these candles and crystals and a vase of water in between me and my dear friend, and suddenly Farnaz’s voice sounds a bit odd, and the speech patterns aren’t hers at all, and she’s speaking in a most profound way. 

This is channeling. 

Over the subsequent weeks I get a little better at it, a little less afraid, and I notice things like every time we start the channeling, the whole neighborhood seems to be super active during the first five minutes.

The dogs are barking, the birds and the kids and the neighbors are twittering and I’m questioning, is it going to work tonight? but then the world quietens a bit and all of a sudden there he is – Maitreya – embodied by my gorgeous friend, who has just finished cooking dinner for her family, ready and willing to answer my questions. And it begins again.

Meeting Maitreya

On the evening of July 15, 2020, exactly halfway into one of the most exceptional years of my lifetime, a dear friend and neighbor, Susan, invited me to her back yard to facilitate a socially distanced sound bath. She had invited two of her close friends over to experience the healing power of sound – which I introduced to her a few years ago. After several months into the COVID-19 quarantine, I was delighted by the invitation.

I arrived that evening, through the side gate and entered this zen paradise. Poolside and under a beautiful guava tree, she had created a ceremonial circle with seating cushions, candles, and crystals from her many travels around the world. The sky was clear, and the air was as warm as the southern California coast can be during the mid-summer nights.
