    CHAPTER

    1

    TH

    E BATTLE LINE IS DRAWN

    Genesis

    1:1

    -

    3

In the beginning God created the heavens

and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw the light,

that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. God goes on and calls forth the heavens, the sun, the moon, the earth, the seas, the grass, the herbs, the trees, animals, sea creatures, the birds and man.

    New King James Version

    10

Reading from Genesis 1:31: Then God saw

everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were

the sixth day. God saw everything that He made.

He looked everything over and came up with one conclusion; it was good! He was pleased with His

creation. He was pleased with the works of His hands. It was good indeed!

God spoke everything in existence by His

spoken word. His word is life. As stated in

Hebrews chapter 4:12 For the word of God is

living and powerful, and sharper than any

two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and

is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the

heart. His word is living and powerful! Everything

had life; the plants, the animals and man. There

was no death in this beautiful creation world.

Nothing could die. We had life, plants had life and

animals had life. No death! It was a paradise. The birds were singing, the breeze was blowing and

man was enjoying all the beautiful trees, animals

    and life in this creation.

    11

We didn’t have to do work. We were supposed to tend to the garden, not till it. God made everything perfect for us.

Nothing happened in this realm, until God spoke His word into it. And nothing is going to

happen in your darkness until you begin to speak into it! The same Spirit that brought life to a cold dark point in the universe, is the same Spirit that is in each of us that know Jesus. Speak God’s word into your darkness and see what happens. We will

address this in more detail in a later chapter.

But higher on His agenda, more prominent

on His mind, He wondered if man would not only

appreciate what He had created for him, but

would appreciate Him…… for who He is? Would

man give Him the honor due to Him, seeing how

He was the Lord and the Creator of all things.

    Would man obey His voice?

Reading from Genesis 2:8,9 The Lord God

planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of

the ground the Lord God made every tree grow

that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.

    12

The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Then the command came. Reading from

Genesis 2:15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day

that you eat of it you shall surely die."

Reading in chapter 3 of Genesis, we read

that the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field. The Bible refers the serpent to a beast of the field. So originally the serpent was some kind of beast. When we see the word serpent we automatically think of a snake. But that didn’t

happen to this mammal until after the fall of man.

The serpent poses a question to Eve, by

asking her, if God told her that she should not eat of every tree of the garden? Eve answers by

saying, Genesis 3:2 "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the

tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has

    tree_14.tif

    13

said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’"

Now the lie from the serpent. Reading from

Genesis 3:4,5  Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.  The serpent tells Eve a lie, that she will not surely die, and then he tells her a truth that

her eyes will be open and she will be like God.

So why couldn’t man eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil? Because, he could eat from every tree in the garden which included the tree of life, (because man had life),
