Edward and I were the type of couple that felt magnetic. We enjoyed spending time together. I liked the fact he was a Bible kid, raised in Sunday school, where they read and taught the Bible one-on-one with the children. They taught praying first, before reading the Holy Scriptures. You typically grow up in that world having many happy childhood memories.
Edward loved those old black-and-white TV shows, like Gunsmoke and Hogan’s Heroes. He’d watch them for hours while I puttered around. Two halves of a whole spurs a deep connection. That was the way we each felt when he kissed me for the very first time.
He told me that kiss was magical.
Before we were wed, there was the union of the souls, described as blessed by God. We were pledged to each other before we took the actual vows in front of our family and friends.
I continued to maintain my own home, however. I loved my place so much. It was rare that I needed to visit Edward at his house. My idea was to wait a year after meeting each other before we married, I wanted the time to plan the engagement party, high-school graduation, a wedding, and our reception, which would be a full year from the engagement proposal in August.
That proposal happened while we were visiting a historical project I continue to be involved with in Hampton, Virginia. We both claimed to be historians, so it had special meaning. We had also been dating for only four months, so it was totally unexpected.
Once Edward popped the question, I wondered what people would think.
Babe,
Edward assured me, it really doesn’t matter.
