About this ebook

This book is dedicated to Bailey, our wonderful and very brave Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who we sadly lost on January the 25th 2012.

Its an account of his life, and the discovery of his L-2-HGA later on in his life, and the effect that had on all of us.

When we lost him, we felt we needed to celebrate his life somehow with others, and we also wanted to share the many years of happiness he gave us.

We would like his memory to live on through these pages and images of such a gentle and faithful best friend.

We hope you enjoy his story and wish to thank you very much for taking an interest in his life.

Rachel Inchley

My name is Rachel Inchley and I live with my husband in Birmingham in the UK and this is my first ever book so I hope you enjoy it. I wanted to write this book in memory of my beloved Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bailey, who sadley passed away on 25th January 2012. I have never written a book before, but I felt I needed to celebrate his life with as many people as possible and try to explain as best as I could all about his illness. He was diagnosed with L-2-HGA later on in his life, and I felt I needed to not only explain the effect that had on our lives but also to make people more aware of L-2-GHA and the steps we took to cope with the Illness.

This book is dedicated to Bailey, our beautiful and very brave Staffordshire bull terrier who passed away on 25 th January 2012, aged 11 years and 3 months. His Kennel Club name was Thor Midnight Gladiator and this turned out to be so appropriate for our Boy as he was a proper fighter, a real true life Gladiator as you will see!

It’s a book dedicated to his life from beginning to end with the good times and the not so good times (I can’t bring myself to write bad times, as I don’t believe there were any) and the discovery of his L-2-HGA later on in his life and the effect that had on his life and our lives. Sometimes it was a long hard struggle for us, but he was worth every bit of it.

We hope Bailey’s story will help to make people aware of L-2-HGA and the effect it can have on a Staffy, and also show the importance of only getting a puppy from tested stock, so then these genes don’t get passed on to more and more dogs. We felt very lucky that Bailey lived to be his age as we believe a lot of dogs with L-2-HGA do die a lot younger and they do suffer.

We wanted to write this book in the hope that Bailey’s memory will live on forever through these pages and images of such a wonderful and faithful friend and we hope Bailey’s story will show that sometimes dogs affected with L-2-HGA can lead a happy and fairly full life.

At the very end of the book, we have added a poem that one of our friends sent to us when Bailey passed away from rainbowbridge.com. A friend of hers was given a copy of it when her pet passed away. It’s such a beautiful poem we wanted to print it.

    BRINGING BAILEY HOME

I and my Husband Darren, had wanted another dog for several years but there was always other things going on in our lives.

We promised ourselves that after our Wedding in 2000 we would get a dog the year after, however lots of our friends were going to Turkey again in the Summer (as we had done for our Honeymoon) so we put if off for another year and jetted of to Turkey and that was the last holiday we were ever to have abroad for the foreseeable future.

We went to Cornwall later on that same year, and we got to meet a lovely couple on the Camping Site where we stayed,
