I also want to thank our GOD ALMIGHTY because without his grace and blessing this book would not have been possible.
In conclusion, I would like to acknowledge the belated, Zig Ziglar. My director, Cathy Magbee, took me to see him live in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Ziglar accompanied by his daughter on stage stated in a quote,
You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great
.
Those sixteen words will live in my heart forever as a spark to never be afraid to start.
Introduction
What can I say about epilepsy? This is the question I often ask myself. My father died in his sleep at home from what doctor’s say was a Generalized Tonic Clonic (grand mal seizure). When it happened I felt empty, and it inspired me to write a poem called Day by Day,
which explains the way I felt then and the way I feel now. Time has made me strong, and has given me a chance to heal.
My father’s death motivated me to write this book because I have personally experienced the seizures and attacks similar to what he used to have. My family was not educated on what to do during these attacks, and we did what we thought was right at the time. Growing up with my father’s illness was difficult for me because I felt helpless in not knowing what to do when he would have a seizure.
As a reader, I want you to take this journey with me, from my childhood days to my life as an adult dealing with epilepsy. When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with having absence (petit mal seizures). Being so young, I didn’t know what that meant. I was required to take medication that made me extremely sick. I felt different compared with rest of the kids and it was difficult watching the other children live healthy lives.
Each day is a struggle for me to live with epilepsy. Each person with epilepsy reacts differently during a seizure. I am dedicated to educating as many people as I possibly can
