30 Second Success - Laura Templeton
Part One
It Starts with Why
You might be asking right about now, What does my ‘why’ have to do with my thirty-second message?
and I really don’t blame you. But stick with me here, and you’ll understand soon enough that your why
has a lot to do with your message. In fact, there are a lot of Business Coaches out there encouraging people to share your why as your message. Although I do not wholly agree with that philosophy, I do know that to understand your clients and stay focused on your business goals, you need to understand your reason for doing what you do, hence starting with your why.
Knowing your why
is very important, especially in business, and it often gives us a better understanding of who
we serve. This will be especially important as we move forward. When we have a deep understanding of why we do what we do, we often find that it is easier to connect with who we serve.
Often times, it is the connection to a personal need that drives us to success and even though your personal why
may not have anything to do with who you serve, why you serve that particular client, the story behind what you do and why you believe in it, will certainly matter. Whatever your why, it is important to know and to keep in view as you grow your business, especially on those days that challenge you and make you question your sanity for sticking with it.
Knowing your why
gives you the fuel that feeds your confidence to stand fast and deliver an excellent thirty-second message.
If I told you, I help people create their thirty-second messages because I want to take a trip around the world.
that might sound shallow and a bit selfish to most people (maybe not a travel agent) because there’s a disconnect that is hard to overcome. But, if I told you, I help people create their thirty-second messages because I’ve seen too many incredible people I have come to know and love struggle to deliver a clear, concise message month after month,
that would most likely get you to sit up and listen if this is something you struggle with because it is authentic and elicits an emotional connection.
So why do you do what you do? Do you want to:
Create a legacy for your family;
Change the lives of people in a third world country;
Successfully impact 1 million entrepreneurs worldwide;
Start and fully fund a non-profit to fund research for a
