The Wood Carving - Wanda Robinson

A carver takes a piece of wood and slowly carves away at the wood in his hands.

This wood is just a tree in a vast forest of trees. The carver comes along and decides that this one tree is perfect for his work; for the idea that is in his head to create into something beautiful, unique, magnificent, a one-of-a-kind art. Time is not an issue, as he sits, chipping away and smoothing each part to his likeness.

The wood makes no sound. It does not cry out, whine in dismay, or wonder why the carver is choosing to carve in this fashion.

With each stroke and cut, the carver creates a masterpiece.

Each flaw is removed. He smiles as he works. A melody escapes his lips, and he whistles as he whittles.

Joy is so evident as he works on his piece of wood. When he first saw the tree, it was full of leaves and branches, but he could see the finished product within his spirit.

He did not see the time and hours it would take to perfect his piece of art. He always saw the finished product. Perfect in His eyes. Useable for either him or someone else to gaze upon or use.

He saw beauty in the wood. Distinguished, perfect, and set apart. He saw it being used and being a blessing for many years to come.

He even saw it when its time had been completed, and it sat on a dusty shelf. The owners’ eyes would see it in the dim light of the cottage, and a smile would come to the grizzled, stubbled face, and pleasure would warm his heart as he recalled the many times, he would hold this piece in his hands.

But, alas, the piece would still sit on the dusty shelf, having served its purpose in life. No remorse—just gladness. Knowing it had done well and accomplished the thing to which it had been carved and created to do.

One day, the owner picked up the piece, blew off the dust and gently wrapped the wood piece in a soft silk cloth, then laid it to rest in a box, and closed the lid. Time had come and gone.

What about you, my friend? Can you relate to this piece of wood? Can you identify to whom the carver is? Are you willing to be used as to what the creator had designed you to be and do?

As our days go by, and we trudge through life, with all its testing’s and challenges.

Are you as the wood was and not whining or crying out, but willing to be crafted and used as Creator God sees fit?

    I pray this is so.

    Ephesians 2:10 - Angela

    DeKalb Illinois USA

One of my favorite and most centering verses in Scripture is Ephesians 2:10, for it reminds me of my purpose. The Holy Spirit used the apostle Paul to let us know this:

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10 ESV)

Knowing whose we are (God’s children) and why we are here helps focus us at all times. My sister, the following words contain the message God gave me to share with you at this specific time in your life.

God created you for such as time as this. From the beginning, God gave woman her own identity by removing Eve from Adam’s body, and he gave equal partnership in developing the environment in which he placed them.

When Esther (the Jewish orphan who became the Queen of Persia) recognized God chose her to change history, she prayed, planned, and took action to save the Jews from being annihilated. Esther left an indelible footprint.

You too, are God’s handiwork, created for a purpose. Walk courageously in your destiny. As Leymah Gbowee (2011 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate) said: You can never leave footprints that last if you are always walking on tiptoes.

When I Give You All - Teresa Skinner

    Prescott Valley, Arizona, USA

What will I give to your people when you send me?

What will I give to your people when you send me?

Will I give meekness, will I give kindness?

Or will I give them something of myself?

How much do souls really mean to me?

How much do souls really mean to me?

What kind of price am I willing to pay?

That they might know you, Lord, this way?

When I give you all Lord,

When I give you all Lord.

Only then do I have something to give.

When I give you all Lord,

When I give you all Lord.

Only then do I have something to give.

Paul travailed again that Jesus Christ be formed in them.

Dear Jesus, please be formed in me!

And when there is more of you,

I know there's less of me.

And you are what I'll give...

Paul travailed again that Jesus Christ be formed in them.

Dear Jesus, please be formed in me!

And when there is more of you,

I know there's less of me.
