I am married with 4 children and currently live in Victoria, B.C.. I love travelling and I love kids, specially my own. Our family trips are my inspiration as they are some of the best memories of my life. The time spent together gives us a wonderful family bond and the education my kids have from their trips is invaluable. Having travelled the world fairly extensively, I started to write in order to share with children how amazing our world is and how important it is to look after it and appreciate what we have. I have had so many people over the years tell me that they did not want to go to a certain place because of a fear of something.... ex. "I would never go to Australia because it is full of snakes and spiders". Yes, Australia does have snakes and spiders, but in the 5 years I lived in Australia I saw one snake and never encountered a poisonous spider. Driving in L.A. is kind of crazy, in my opinion, but do people not go to L.A. because it has cars? I want to encourage kids to not live in fear of the unknown. We miss out on so much in life if we live in fear. Our world is incredible.....explore, appreciate, and care for it and each other.I hope my books will inspire you and bring you enjoyment.Sincerely,Jane

    Chapter One

    IN WHICH PJ COUNTS STARS

PJ and Emily were very excited. Mom and Dad had just told them that they were going on a trip to Italy and had given them a little English-Italian dictionary to study before leaving.

Peter, Star Bear, do you want to learn some Italian with us? asked Emily.

Italian! Why do I need to know Italian? Everyone speaks English, stated Star Bear.

Yes, here they do, but in Italy they speak Italian, said Peter.

That’s nice, but I’m not in Italy, said Star Bear.

But you will be soon. Weren’t you paying any attention to Mom and Dad? asked Peter.

Oh. No, sorry. I was trying to count my stars to make sure that none of them came off in the wash, replied Star Bear as he craned his neck to try and look down his back.

Let me count them for you, said Emily. "PJ, you can help me. I’ll count the front and you count the back. Uno. Due. Tre. Quattro. Cinque. Sei. Sette. Otto. Nove. Dieci. Undici."

You sound funny, said Star Bear.

I was counting in Italian, said Emily. You have eleven stars on your front.

Any you have eleven on your back, said PJ.

Well, that’s a relief. I’m quite sure that’s the number I had before I went into the wash, said Star Bear.

    "Bene," said Emily

    Pardon? said Star Bear.

I said ‘that’s good’ in Italian.

Hmmm. Maybe I should look at that dictionary, otherwise, my fans in Italy might not be able to understand me, said Star Bear.

It would be quite tragic for you to be delusional AND misunderstood, muttered PJ.

    Did you say something PJ?

"No, no. Just practicing my Italian. Let’s see…Buongiorno is hello, bueno-notte is good-night, grazie is thank you, per favore is please. This could be fun learning all these new words."

Why are you learning new words? asked the cat as he walked into the room.

We’re learning Italian for our trip to Italy, replied PJ.

What? Noooooooo! NO! NO! NO! That means I’ll have another cat-sitter, wailed Fuzzy Beast.

I think it’s time to show my extreme displeasure to the family.

How will you do that? asked PJ.

I’ll start with overheating myself so I do some extreme shedding, then there is a great mud puddle I could walk through just before coming back inside, and I think I might try out some random yowling at about 3am, replied the disgruntled cat.

The random yowling in the middle of the night is definitely very unpopular, said PJ.

Yes, well, dogs seem to bark whenever they feel like it for no apparent reason, so I figure we cats should have a turn sometimes too. I’m off to sharpen my claws on the couch or the front door, stated Fuzzy as he exited the room.

"Oh dear, poor Fuzzy Beast. I do hope they get a cat-sitter that he likes this time. He is normally so well behaved. Although, I must admit, I am
