About this ebook

Knowing Your Game is an inspirational piece on the essence of doggedly knowing what you want in life and from life so you can boldly defend it. The postulate, from the mind of the writer, is that Knowing or truly knowing, as it were, is more of a spiritual thing.

    FOREWORD

It is always great to see a new generation emerge and make their input on the important issues of life. Sheun David-Onamusi demonstrates through this work his ability to think beyond surface thoughts and to provoke readers to consider their personal destiny. Using a combination of motivational, inspirational and spiritual insights he implores us to find our purpose in life and play the game of life through the mind of the creator. In his own words he emphasizes, if we ever want to make an impact, we will have to know our game. He likens life to a game that we are all engaged in and only the ones who know and understand their game will succeed.

Oneofthemost interesting and powerful thoughts in this book is that we have to redefine success. Many persons have confused success with money, fame or power but Sheun concludes that success is based upon fulfilling your purpose more than achieving monetary or physical assets. The most striking example of this is the life of a man who spent 27 years in prison and sacrificed personal gain to ultimately achieve true success that the world now recognizes. I believe the readers of this book will be both inspired and encouraged to acquire knowledge, fulfill their purpose and win at the most important game of all, the game of life.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

Knowing your game has been an interesting and thought provoking read and i believe is a must read for every purpose driven individual! Sheun David-Onamusi has used a very contemporary style without compromising truth to provoke an awakening from within anyone who cares to read. You won’t play your game if you don’t know how important it is to your generation neither can you play a game you haven’t discovered or understood. What gives your time/life value is knowing your game. I think this is a great tool!

The need to master one’s game is fundamental to everyone’s ability to contribute positively to life. Sheun has expressed this simple truth succinctly and definitely challenges contemporary thinking with this book. Sheun David-Onamusi is unusual in a world that most resort to grandeur illusions of who they are. He has found his reason for living, and is quite an inspiring young man.

In the age where success is measured by overly ephemeral metrics, Sheun has done a great job redefining our perception of success. It is a timely message that needs to be resonated for all to hear and i trust all who read this book would find it both informative and enlightening.

Knowing your game is not just a title, it’s actually a command, an order and a charge. Knowing your game will not just make you think out of the box, it will cause you to use the box to see new possibilities with your vision.

I have been mentoring Sheun for some months and have had the opportunity to know him personally. Sheun is a lively intelligent young man who along his mentoring journey has been a great help to me personally. He is very capable, creative and a person of integrity who i can trust. i am aware of his writing style and what impresses me is the way it flows, it is very free flowing. He has a very innovative approach to his writing giving space and giving you time to think. This gives the potential to think and write your own thoughts and responses to what you have read. This along with summarising chapters and issuing challenges earths it and gives great opportunity for what he writes to impact you and bring about change in your life.

Terry Diggens, Consultant - A Call to Business

The work knowing your game is simply a masterpiece. The writer clearly expresses the essence of everyday living in a way that is succinct and logical. Rarely do you get literature that speaks the mind of the creator in laymen terms. a very adaptable manual that teaches the reader to not only know your purpose but master it, plan it, research it, evaluate it and most importantly execute it. This book teaches us the importance of great value. To not only have potential, but to execute potential. Be king! Know your game & smash your game!

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my wonderful mother Omotilewa isola-jagun and my wise father Femiwale Onamusi. You are the reasons why i am here playing my game. Without both of you, there will be no game to play and i couldn’t have asked for better parents. I love you both for encouraging me to be my best.

I also want to dedicate this to every youth I have had the unique privilege to mentor and have as friends. I can’t mention everyone but you all matter to me. I thank god every time I think about you all. I’ll see you all at the top of your game.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The way the creator designed that a man’s dream is to be measured is in the quality of people he can be accountable to. A man must be able to link his success to the support of people around him and those who had in one way or another influenced his success must be given their due place. The first century writer Paul of Tarsus says it like this Imitate me as I Imitate Christ. It is almost impossible to mention all the people who played a major role in putting together this book. From small groups to the men who mentor me from a distance, I am truly grateful.

I am forever accountable to my beautiful wife Bukki David Onamusi. Thank you for your prayers, love and support. My life is truly incomplete without you! God flattered me when he sent you my way and I am privileged to play the rest of my ‘game’ with you. You are not just god’s mouthpiece; you are a sign that he is up to something exceptional in our generation.

One major influence to this book and to whom I express great gratitude is my mentor Deacon Aluko. Thank you for the countless words of wisdom and the role you played in my formative years as a Christian. This book was birth from one of our numerous conversations. To men who have in countless ways mentored me spiritually, Apostle Matthew Oluwajoba, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, Pastor Agu Irukwu, Pastor David Modede, and Dr Myles Munroe I celebrate you all. You have all in one way stirred up or affirmed the importance of following through with this book. The wonderful Judeo – Christian scriptures records that there are gifts in us which need to be stirred up, having been imparted in us through the laying on of hands. I admire you all.

Thank you my dear friend Tolu Cole who helped during the photo shoot for the first edition. There are very few men like Chief Kolade Ojo in history. A father and a mentor who deserves the optimum respect! Thank you Chief for being there for me! I truly appreciate you sir!

Last but in no wise least; to the lord, immortal, invisible, the only wise god, I am forever indebted. You are the only source of true life. You are crowned with wisdom. You give a man the game and also back him up so he doesn’t fail. You are in every way the master of all knowledge. Your insight ridicules the ideas and philosophies of men. You are true and faithful. Thank you for blessing everyone who reads this book and seeks to know the game they need to play in life.

    INTRODUCTION

After years of counselling young people and personal research I have come to the conclusion that one of the biggest dilemmas our generation suffers is that of choosing between, amongst many options available, what they want to do in life and what someone else wants them to do. Parents, career counsellors, youth leaders, partners and friends are some of the people who help shape our dreams but if we do not personally know what we want from life, we so easily can live our lives for them and never
