About this ebook

Sam Raven was born in 1946, in a small little old town over 450 years old. At this time shrimping was the main source of income , along with the tourist trade. This town was named St. Augustine, by early Spanish explorers . Sam grew up roaming the swamps and wood lands, hunting and fishing. Graduating from school he entered military life trying to find “his way” for life. Many of the thoughts are related to this time and places visited while on Duty. He became an author late in life, because of injuries incurred from combat wounds sustained during combat. Writing was quite a change from the dangerous and crazy years spent in different and dangerous parts of the world. But during those young and sometimes foolish days he was in jungle, desert, and mountains. Thus the poems of gardens, rivers, and brooks. In others he expresses his love of history. Trying to express his feelings felt in different situations. In the poem Viet Nam some of these things come forward and in others like Religion, the question is asked “WHY” does the way that one worships is a deathly sin. Then time goes by from insanity to. A gentleman's respect in his poem “WAITING TO OPEN THE DOOR”then the seasons change an so does the writing relayed in the poem “SUMMER TIME” .The many different forms of thoughts and poetry belong to you, as you read and relate so does your life, please try to understand and to take hold and enjoy, for I feel that everyone

    THE AUTHOR

    37212.png

Sitting at his desk from 2am until present

He writes from minds eye what comes to a head

Then scrolls down the message typed to see what was said

Behold in ink the future lies for this disabled guy.

To write in verse is hard and sad for his memory is damaged

Time is kept from an old broken watch to tell the time, place, age.

The sun is high no time to snooze or another verse you could lose,

People come here to visit to walk on the beach without any shoes

Beach sand curling through your toes is therapeutic to all lose their woes

The music of waves crashing onto the beach in continuous theme sound like rhythm

To some it seems magic music from almighty scores, played by angles like hymn

Love comes alive around water it seems a beacon to all for the future again.

Everything is new it seems when twon people watch the water ebb and floe

Turnin gbacj the clock of aging and youth, living at the beach gives pleasure galore.

After 50 years on earth you have done most all but now we look to venture more

Sitting and looking at the continuous waves hit the shore telling life we still have galore,

Of time and peace and places to see before we are called to heaven above!

    A LATE WALK

    37212.png

When I go through the evening surf,

    The headless aftermath,

Smooth-laid the sands like morning dew,

    Half closes the trundle path.

And when I came to the sands great mound,

    The whir of pelican birds

Up from the tangle of withered sea oat weeds

    Is sadder then words profound.

A tree beside the sea wall lays withered,

But a leaf that lingered bare,

Disturbed by surf and not my thought, Comes softly floating by.

    Lend not from going forth

    By watching the faded blue

Of the last remaining fiddler crab in this ocean with surf just for you.

    SUMMER TIME

    37212.png

I would arise in a dream that I kept-

Not every star, not every star

Lie down the tall grass again,

And fall asleep until night and awake next morn.

In sleepy comfort in sweet smelling grass I’d turn I’d seck a new position and be hard to please Shadows in a meadow lie in an isle of cypress trees, ‘All summer long among the grass and fern.

Flowers and foliage are found round about, and the mead silent, and meadow fern deep,

Or I might not slumber in such a tireless sleep! I could not rest if the wains were out!

    LONELY MOMENT

    37212.png

Raising alone in the AM creates daily problems When all you have is an open mind to give satisfactions, Going to the kitchen to pore you a
