About this ebook

The Holy Spirit is the divine author, originator and producer of the scriptures. About the Author

    Preface

Along with God the Father who is the designer of the gospel, and God the Son who is the Center and focus of the gospel. God the Holy Spirit also plays a vital role in evangelism. In fact, the Holy Spirit’s role functions primarily in three ways:

The Holy Spirit is the empowerer in evangelism. (Acts 1:8)

The Holy Spirit is the convictor in evangelism. ( John 16:8)

The Holy Spirit is the revealer in evangelism. (Romans 3:22)

Therefore, to evangelize the Holy Spirit has to be effective in the lives of the believers.

Believers should yield to the work of the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit leads them into the fullness of a spiritual life. Many believers pull back from the commitment of walking in the spirit, but Paul declared that it is possible to live through the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit.

Many times we are unconscious of our disposition to rebel against the Holy Spirit. However, an honest investigation of our inward thoughts and feelings will reveal that we are not fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit. In every confrontation believers must yield to the Holy Spirit. That is submit his own desires to those of the Spirit.

Doris Akers the writer of Sweet, Sweet Spirit was leading a prayer meeting with her choir one Sunday morning when she sensed something special happening. She described it this way, the Holy Spirit came down on me and my choir in a sweet gentle sense of powerful presence. She said I could see the Holy Spirit displayed on the choir members’ warm expressions. So she wrote these words: Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet Heavenly dove, stay right here with us, filling us with your love and for these blessings we will lift our hearts in praise. Without a doubt we will know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place (Petersen and Petersen, 2006).

There is a real difference between the Christian and the non-Christian, because the Christian has obeyed the call to walk in the Spirit. God has provided for us in the spiritual realm all the resources that will be required for us as we step into our future. My brothers and sisters, you will find it extremely difficult to get through any trial or pain without the effectiveness of the Holy Spirit.

    Chapter One

The anointing of the Holy Spirit

In the Old Testament the Spirit of Yahweh is God’s power in action. Yahweh’s spirit is God Himself present and at work. The Bible said: He which established us with you in Christ and hath anointed us in God (2 Corinthians 1:21). One of the most elusive themes in the Bible is the anointing of the Holy Spirit: the Holy Spirit anoints believers and empowers them for the service of the Gospel proclamation.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit was foretold in Isaiah 61:1 and Daniel 9:24. Here the prophet announces that God has commissioned him through an anointing with the Spirit. This mysterious presence of God was fulfilled in Luke 4:18, Acts 10:38 and Hebrews 1:19. The Word of God said, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor, He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18). Here the Spirit Himself was the anointing.

God preserves those who receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit. In the book of Psalms we are given some powerful Scriptures as a weapon to use in our daily lives. (Psalms 18:50, 20:6, 89:20-23) I have found David my servant, with my holy oil have I anointed him: With whom my hand shall be established, mine arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. (Psalms 89:20-23)

The anointing guards genuine Christians from error. Christ imparts the Holy Spirit as our illuminating guardian from deception. The Holy Spirit guides the believers into knowing all things. True Christians have a built in detector that preserves them in the truth. In the book of 1 John 2:20, it tells us that we have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. (NIV) In verse 27 of the same chapter it said, as for you the anointing which you received from Him abides in you and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. (NASB)

    Chapter Two

The Baptism with the Holy Spirit

Salvation is God’s greatest gift to the world. The Holy Spirit is God’s greatest gift to His children, the church. The baptism with the Holy Spirit can be called the baptism of power. The Bible said these signs will accompany those who believe - In My name, they will drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues, they will pick up snakes with their hands, and when they drink deadly poison it will not hurt them at all. They will place their hands on sick people and they will get well (Mark 16:17-18 NIV). These signs confirm
