    Chapter 1 What Is Adult ADHD?

    Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition found in 60 percent of adults who suffered with ADHD as a child. ADHD is a complex neurological and behavioral condition that results in problems such as inattention, erratic and impulsive behavior and inability to complete tasks. Patients with ADHD are frequently quick tempered, impatient and have poor or non-existent organizational skills.

    The onset of ADHD is exclusively in childhood. The condition does not develop in adults. Adults with ADHD may not have been diagnosed with the disorder in childhood and investigation into his or her past may help confirm a diagnosis. A history of poor performance in school and multiple disciplinary actions may point to ADHD. Often children with ADHD have to repeat one or more grade levels in school and have a higher overall dropout rate. Interviewing the adult patient's parents, if possible, is an excellent way to gather evidence to support
