      The two adults watch the child play in the snow. The child laughs and chortles, leans back to catch snowflakes, flops bonelessly down to wave limbs to make snow angels.

      The woman exudes wealth and status. Her dark brown hair is impeccably styled, her scarlet wool coat with its shiny black buttons all the way down cost far more than most people’s monthly salaries. Her gloves are supple black leather lined with real rabbit fur. Her makeup is understated perfection on a sculpted face that doesn’t need much assistance.

      The man cares about status and wealth as well, but for him, his status comes from other things, not his appearance. His black wool coat is expensive, but years old, with shiny spots at the elbows, and his unkept hair needs trimming. His lips are chapped. When it comes to status, he cares specifically about his work and how it is received. He has ambition, plans—grand and glorious plans.
