Precious Jewels of Inspiration Vol 1 - RUTH WALYA MUNENE

    DAY 1

    GRATITUDE

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

    Psalm 34:1 NKJV

We are all slowly and differently coming out of a season that has been very hard on us – the COVID-19 pandemic season. Most of us are counting our losses, some have lost all that they have built over their lifetime, many of our children feel greatly disappointed by losing one year of school, adults have lost jobs, many in the world have lost their loved ones, others fell ill to a near-death moment, and clearly we have never been this under. It is a season that most of us wish was just a dream.

Having gone through these challenges, we feel justified to ask God where He was when we were going through the suffering. Why did He allow this to happen to us? I too pondered on the same, and the Lord took me to the story of Job. None of us can declare that they have suffered the way Job did. Even when he lost everything, and his wife asked him to curse God and die, Job did not complain despite his tribulations. The Bible says in Job 1:22, In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong. At the end of the season of suffering, Job declared that he had seen God, and the Lord rewarded him by restoring double of all he had lost.

As He did for Job, the Lord is bringing us out of this season of suffering. We are alive and well because the Lord took care of us, and by His grace, we are sure that He will fulfil His purpose for our lives. That is a good reason to worship and praise Him. We cannot boast of anything we have done that justifies the Lord’s mercies upon our lives. Even though we have fallen short of His glory, His mercies upon our lives are new every morning. Let us fill our hearts with thanksgiving as we count our blessings and declare the words of the psalmist in Psalm 103:1-13,

Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The LORD executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious; slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear Him.

Today, let us focus on the Lord’s goodness, which we have seen and experienced in the COVID-19 pandemic season. What are you grateful to God for concerning this season? The Bible says that when we offer the Lord a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, it prepares a way for our salvation. Abundance begins with a grateful heart. Gratitude attracts the attention of God and His blessings, and it is the source of real joy.

    Today’s Reflection

What are you grateful to God for from the COVID-19 pandemic season?

Count your blessings and thank God for every one of them.

What have you complained about to God and others during the COVID-19 pandemic season? Ask the Lord to forgive your ingratitude.

Cultivate a grateful spirit and thank the Lord for all seasons.

I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

    Psalm 69:30 NIV

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.

    Psalm 95:1-3 NIV

    DAY 2

IT IS OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY

The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the LORD: ‘O LORD, save me!’

    Psalm 116:3-4 NIV

As a teens mentor in church, I always look forward to the Sunday sessions with them. I dearly treasure the moments when they have ministered to me as their mentor. The mentorship relationship can benefit both the mentor and mentee if treasured. I have learned to keep my ears open to what the Lord is saying to me through my mentees. One Sunday, after the reopening of churches (the government had lifted the COVID-19 restrictions), the Lord had a word for me through one of my mentees. I began our lesson with an ice breaker asking each mentee for lessons they learnt from the COVID-19
