And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

God called me out of darkness into His marvelous light. When He called me, I did not know the extent of my darkness until the Holy Spirit said, You need to change your thinking. I mentally repeated the statement and asked myself, How do I change my thinking? I had already earned two degrees in Business Administration when the Holy Spirit spoke to me, but I was having trouble understanding what the Holy Spirit was saying to me.

What was the Holy Spirit telling me? As I reflected on His words, I realized that the Holy Spirit was talking about changing my thinking from a worldly perspective to a godly perspective. He wanted me to renew my mind so that I could have the mind of Christ. After receiving that revelation, I began reading the Bible and Christian books and listening to Christian preaching and teachings. Renewing my thinking was difficult at first, even with my level of education. It was difficult at first because I had a negative mindset and approached the Bible from a worldly perspective. I made good grades in college, so I did not expect to have difficulty reading and understanding the Bible.

Eventually, I humbled myself and begged the Lord for help in understanding the Bible, and He came to my rescue. After I cried out to the Lord, He began to remove the veil that covered my understanding. I realized I needed guidance from God to understand the Bible. A true understanding of the Word of God comes from the Holy Spirit, not my worldly education. I had to humble myself and ask God for assistance to understand the words that He inspired men to write.

Many years have gone since the Holy Spirit revealed that I needed to change my thinking. Today, I can honestly say my thinking has changed tremendously. My perspective is more positive, and my thinking now aligns with God’s Word. Although, I am still in the process of changing my mindset since changing one’s mindset is a process that takes a lifetime. I need to be patient with myself and accept that changing my mindset is a step-by-step process, and I need to take it one day at a time. Now I realize that there will always be something new to learn in the Bible and that God will be there to assist me in understanding His Word. The Lord will give us understanding in everything (2 Timothy 2:7). The Lord will give us wisdom, for out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6).

    SPIRITUAL LIFE LESSONS

When you read the Bible, you will need to approach it prayerfully and humbly.

The Word of God renews your thinking, and you need to know that renewing your mindset is a lifetime process.

    PERSONAL PRAYER

Lord, help me change my thinking so that it will be in line with Your Word. Help me read Your Word daily, and please open my understanding to Your Word, in Jesus’ name Amen.

    TODAY’S AFFIRMATION

I can change my thinking daily by praying, reading, and studying the Word of God and good Christian materials.

    Day 2

    BAPTISM OF THE

    HOLY SPIRIT

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

    Acts 2:38

I was assigned to work as a professor’s assistant when I was in college. At that time, my schedule was occupied with my official duties, education, and ambition. God was not on my mind until a co-worker invited me to a concert at her church. I told her I might come to the concert if I was not doing anything on the weekend. When the weekend came, I did not have any plans, so I went to the church concert.

The people in the church expressed much joy as they praised and worshipped God. I was amazed at the outward expressions of their joy. I was new to this type of atmosphere; it was my first time visiting an Apostolic Church. My family attends Methodist, and I had never seen or experienced this type of atmosphere in the Methodist Church. The joyful atmosphere in the Apostolic Church gave me a desire for the thing that made the people in that church so joyful. Following that joyful experience, I began attending that Apostolic Church regularly.

At the Apostolic Church, I heard messages on salvation, water baptism, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. After hearing the messages, I decided to repent of my sins, and I decided to submit myself to water baptism. As for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, I had a problem believing in that. It was strange to me, and I could not understand that concept. I tried to figure out logically how God could reside in my body. I wrestled with doubt and unbelief for a month.

An elderly lady took me to a room in the back of the church to seek the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. When I entered the room, I saw the elders and new believers in Christ on their knees praying. I stood against a wall and watched the people pray. I was waiting for an elder to pray with me. While I was waiting for the elder, I remembered I had an invitation to eat at a friend’s house. As the food came to my mind, I stretched out my hand to get an elder’s attention to let him know I was planning to leave the room. Suddenly, I heard a voice say, If you leave now, you might miss your chance of getting the Holy Spirit. When I heard that voice, I decided to stay in the room and pray to the Lord by myself. I turned my face to the
