The Urban's - Paula Lund
One
Downtown New Haven
Carla, new to the metropolitan, sat on a tangerine color and slightly cushioned seat of the New Haven’s free Downtown Business District Bus. She wore dark polyester cotton blend thin pin striped slacks, a beige color satiny long sleeve button up blouse, and a nice knitted two large front button cardigan sweater. Her hair is an assortment of sun exposure light and medium blonde. Neat and pulled up to the highest portion of her head into a secure bun. Three hairpins with a pearl each pinned around to keep any fine hairs from escaping.
She exited the bus with a slight cool early morning spring breeze and an aroma of espresso and bakery at a cafe across the wide downtown sidewalk. Hesitant only to remind herself of what she was doing there. She looked at her thin silvered wrist watch as she considered the morning cafe, it’s best to be a little early than a minute late. Especially on the first day and when you have not yet been hired.
Carla walked half way down the block to one of the tallest towers that is part of central downtown New Haven. Its giant vaulted windows glistened into a seam less sharp. Four long wide steps up to a platform and four more long and wide steps. To a single revolving door and two optional regular doors one on each side. Carla pushed her way through the circular door to the main entrance to the vast lobby. A large sign out on the lobby's main floor with a big black arrow pointed in the direction of the New Haven's Bank. She walked past the bank sign and to an open five tier level balcony. At the top is a cafeteria type setting. Where tables and chairs were arranged to look down the balcony.
A long counter desk with already lit computer screens. A personal had just arrived that morning and situated herself to direct anyone anywhere. About anything that concerned the tower and included the entire square block. Behind the personal a large directory listed with business names and each location. Green foliage among a fancy indoors urban style waterfall towards the other backside. The attendant directed a smile at Carla. Carla returned the silent gesture back to the attendant. She walked past the desk to the twelve rows of elevators. A loud ding bell, a chime that sounded both high and low in pitch. An elevator had lightened up and its doors opened.
As the doors began to close a woman shouted, wait hold the elevator please.
The sounds of high heels on the shiny polished marble floor, as each step clicked, and picked up pace. Carla was unaware of the hold the elevator button, she used a portion of her body weight onto the doors to cause the door to stop and redirect itself open. Carla was happy, she did not need to stop the elevator again. The woman stepped into the elevator a moment before the doors began to close once more. The woman is a half foot taller than Carla. The woman was elaborate and pretty, had a tan olive complexion, dark brown eyes, and dark hair.
The woman mildly laughed, we are going to the same floor. Thank you for holding the elevator for me.

Carla stood and waited in front of the office as a subtle chime rang throughout the office. Directly in front of a large secretarial desk. The name, Juniper, etched
