    I stare into the mirror and bite my lip. Should I change my hair to a normal colour for this? What will the other guests think if I turn up with bright pink hair? And what about my glasses? Are there vampires who wear glasses?

    More importantly, why haven't I asked Heath any of those questions in preparation for tonight? The last thing I want to do is make a fool out of myself.

    Daphne? Are you ready? Mona calls.

    I sigh. This is why I asked her to help me get ready. I don't think I could have stomached doing it on my own. And if I had, then I think I'd be messaging Heath and telling him I don't want to go to the party after all.

    Daphne?

    Yes, coming. I pin a final strand of hair in place and leave the bathroom with my hair still it's normal shade of pink. If it looks as if I'll be out of place, then I can always use a spell to make it my natural colour once we get there One of the useful tricks that being a witch makes possible.

    Oh, you look beautiful, she says as I walk out into my dorm room.

    Despite my apprehension, I smile. Do you think? I twirl slowly, though my dress is of the fitted variety and doesn't spin out when I move. I'm not sure if it's the right thing.

    Mona laughs lightly and plays with the small ginger kitten on her lap. She's no bigger than when Mona first conjured her, making us suspect that the kittens she made with magic will never grow up. It's just as well, they're cutest this way.
