    What Happened Before

Daphne and her best friend, Mona, are both first years at Grimalkin Academy. Mona's story can be found in the Grimalkin Academy: Kittens series, and both have been written to avoid spoilers between the two series (though there are a few hints!)

Daphne's twin brother, Ryan, found evidence of an old family spell, but he needed Daphne's help to get it. Not only did he need her to unlock the safe the spell is in, but he needed her to find a vampire who'd take them down to the Vampire library in the catacombs of the academy. Enter Heath! Daphne and Heath met during politics class, where Daphne is the only witch. They strike up a relationship, going on a couple of dates, until Heath's want-to-be-girlfriend, Emma (another vampire) decided to tell him that Daphne was using him.

Heath got mad and refused to talk to Daphne, which made her sad (and a little mopey, but that was mostly between books). He didn't talk to her until they were assigned a project together and they had to. When Daphne said she was dating someone else (more on that in a moment!) he warmed more to her and promised to lead them down to the catacombs.

During her lessons at Grimalkin, Daphne met up with her former childhood sweetheart, Bradley, even though they haven't seen one another in years. While he expressed interest in her, she turned him down, but later asked him to pretend to be her fake boyfriend when she'd accidentally told Heath they were dating. He agreed, and the two of them ended Catching A Wizard by promising to revive their friendship and are still fake dating.

Things between Daphne and Cade (Ryan's best friend) have been tense since he told her how he felt about her and Daphne turned him down. For most of Catching A Wizard, Daphne was avoiding him, but the two of them had an argument in the Catacombs once he'd caught her and Heath kissing, leading to her starting to understand how he was feeling (even if she's still annoyed at him).

Ryan and Daphne found the spell, and successfully turned into cats. Cade also tried to do the spell, but found that he was unable. Once she was back in her bedroom, Daphne found side effects such as whiskers and a tail waiting for her - not ideal!

Catching A Warlock is the third and final book in the Grimalkin Academy: Catacombs trilogy. It is paranormal academy with a reverse harem romance.

    Chapter One

Istare into the mirror for a lot longer than I normally would, searching for some kind of hint of fur or whiskers, or whatever new cat-like features my body decides it wants to give me. I'm sure it can think of something new just to take me off guard.

At least the tail hasn't returned yet.

Daphne, are you coming? Mona shouts through the bathroom door. I'm grateful she hasn't decided to walk in on me, then I'd have even more questions to answer.

Though I'm not sure why I haven't told my best friend about this. Out of all the people I know, she has the most experience with backfiring magic. The kittens in her bedroom are proof of that.

Yes, one second! I call back. Please stay away, I whisper to the mirror.

I know we technically haven't done anything wrong by casting our family spell, but I know that's not how it'll come across if I suddenly sprout a tail during class.

Sighing loudly, I decide this is the best I can do. We can grab seats towards the back of class, and then I can avoid a walk of shame if a tail just pops out. That's my theory. I'm not sure it will work, but it's worth a go.

Mona's leaning against my desk, a bored look on her face as she scrunches her hands open and closed.

    Ready? I ask.

She chuffs. I've been ready for five minutes.

Sorry. Guilt flows through me. I shouldn't have kept her waiting without letting her know. She has enough on her plate without me adding a frustrating best friend to it.

It's okay, but we need to get a move on or we'll be late.

I nod. I should be more careful. No matter what magic is backfiring on me, I can't let my education slip. I came to Grimalkin Academy for a reason, and I'm not going to let that change just because of a silly mistake.

The moment we leave our flat, I'm brought face to face with one of the last people I want to see.

Cade, I say coolly, still not over how he yelled at me in the catacombs.

    Daphne...

I wait for him to continue, hoping he'll
