    Preface

I am not a writer. At least when I compare myself with the great authors of now and of the past, I don’t find myself worthy of being called a writer. So then the question must be asked, why write a book; a fictional book at that? Well, I am a preacher, and as a preacher, I am always studying my bible and thinking of sermons. One day, I was reading a popular New Testament scripture which says, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places, (Ephesians 6 v 12).

After reading this verse, I began to think about what could actually be going on in the unseen spiritual realm. I began to think about angels and what their roles on earth and earthlings play. I began to wonder how serious the demonic forces of this world are. I asked myself the question      what influence do angels and demons have on the lives of humans?

It was at that instant that I decided to use my imagination and write a story about spiritual forces and the effects they have on humans.

This is purely fictional. Many of the instances in this book cannot be biblically backed up. I consider this book to be labeled as: Christian Fiction.

The main Character is Joseph Johnson. He’s a typical African American male out of Brooklyn, New York. The angel in this story is named Gardéus (pronounced Gar-Day-us). Together, Joseph and Gardéus go on a rollercoaster ride as they try to overcome the forces of Satan’s army.

    Singers Yes Michael!

Michael Worshippers, are you ready to worship?

Worshippers Yes Michael, we are ready as well.

Michael Then let the praise begin!!

String instruments play, choir members, including the Seraphim start to sing. Horns, drums, and pianos join in as a splendiferous rendition of praises to God are done in the presence of the Creator. God is basking in his glory. He clearly approves of the spirited songs of worship done by his holy angels. The musicians are on point; the singers are singing with life and vigor. Michael, the Arch Angel, is directing with vitality and enthusiasm.

    All is well in heaven.

But while this is going on around God’s throne, God, in his omnipresent state, is on earth in the Spirit watching and observing one of his sons in the person of Joseph Johnson. JJ, as all of his friends and family call him, is one of God’s favorite human beings to watch. At 19 years old, he is a bright young man. Handsome, charming, intelligent, and yes, God-fearing. God blessed Joseph with an assortment of gifts and abilities. Joseph is an exceptional singer. This boy can sing ‘til he gives you goose bumps. He can dance with the best of them, play baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball. And most of all, Joseph can preach.

Joseph accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at the age of 15. At age 17, he began to preach. This young man would lead some soul saving revivals as the Spirit of God used him to bring souls to Christ. However, today, God is witnessing something from Joseph that he had never seen before. God finds JJ having a sexual threesome with two other ladies. God is displeased with Joseph. Joseph had never been involved in this type of sinful activity before. He went from an innocent virgin to a promiscuous person all in one day.

God immediately leaves the presence of Joseph in disgust.

Back in heaven, the praise from the angels are still going on. The angels are having a great time giving their all in their worship to God. But as soon as God left the presence of Joseph, he softly says to his angels, stop. But no one hears him.

God then speaks in a louder voice: stop the singing. But still, the angels are too caught up in their performance.

The third time, God shouts in a thunderous manner, Silence in the heavens!

The angels see the anger in God, but they also notice a sad disposition on him.

Michael is nervous. My Lord, is our singing not up to your standards?

Your singing is great, the music is great, and the worship is pleasant to my ears. But while you all were praising me, I was down on earth visiting one of my people. One of my faithful servants is allowing Satan to control his actions and I am very disappointed in him.

Those foolish humans, they’re always messing things up. murmurs Michael.

Michael, do not speak ill of my earthly creatures that I have created, you are far from the perfect angel.

JJ is heading down eternal damnation if he continues through this path. He needs a little guidance. I need to set him straight. I know what I’ll do. I’ll have one of you angels keep an eye on him for me.

The Lord then looks over his host of angels and spots a young angel picking at the strings of his violin.

    Gardéus!

Yes, my lord, answers the shy young angel.

I am sending you down to earth for one month. I want you to observe all the actions done by a young man by the name of Joseph. Take this scroll and read it. Written on it is everything you need to know about this young man. Come report to me at the end of every week with an update on him. You must not get in the way of his everyday life. If he is going someplace where he shouldn’t be going, let him go. The only thing I want you to do in these four weeks is to keep him alive. Keep him alive at all cost!

Gardéus is a young angel; he has never monitored a human being before. God had shielded him and a handful of other angels from observing the everyday lifestyle of earthlings.

But he doesn’t have any experience screams one of the older angels.

Gardéus is going to get the poor boy hurt or even killed, yells another.

Nonsense, counters Gardéus. I most certainly can monitor and maintain the life of this Joseph character. What I lack in experience is overshadowed by my will and determination."

Heavenly Father, interjects another angel. Please, don’t send Gardéus. He’s not ready.

Do I not know all things? Replies His Majesty. Gardéus is more than capable of handling the job. I think some of you angels have a case of amnesia and have forgotten your first missions on earth. It didn’t go so well at first now, did it?

You’re right, your majesty, answers Michael. I’ve had my share of misfortunes when dealing with these humans and have certainly learned from my earlier mistakes. I have gotten better with other missions throughout my life.

You’re right, responds another angel named Faila. I have had my ups and downs with the mortals of earth. Many times I have failed on my missions just to be bailed out by His Majesty. Demons were fighting me left and right, and humans were putting themselves in constant danger. But some way, somehow, through the power of our God, we survived. Gardéus will survive just as we have, for God has chosen him; and who can come against God, when God selects one?

The other angels nod in agreement that God was right, and Gardéus should be the angel to go forth with this mission.

Gardéus! shouts one angel Gardéus! shouts another.

Gardéus, yell out by many more angels.

Then, in a unified rhythmic setting, millions of angels begin to chant out loud, "Gar dè us, Gar dè us, Gar dè us," as the angels hoist him up in the air as a coronation to his new job as guardian to Joseph.

When the celebration ends, God looks over to his enthusiastic angels and says, So it is settled! Gardéus, you have 5 hours to prepare yourself for your mission.

Yes, my lord, I shall not let you down. Joseph Johnson will be in good hands.

Back on earth, about 5 hours have passed since God caught JJ in his sinful acts. When JJ gets home, he happens to turn the TV to a religious channel and hears a minister preaching a sermon entitled, ‘Sunday Christians.’ The preacher is talking about how so-called Christians praise God Sunday after Sunday, but during the other six days of the week, they are full of the devil. As the preacher continues to speak, JJ is apologetic for the sinful things he did today. His face saddens, his demeanor is flat. His spirit is down. JJ falls to his knees and immediately prays and asks God for forgiveness.

At the same time that JJ begins to pray, Gardéus shows up and witnesses JJ repenting of his sins.
