Foreword
I have had the pleasure of knowing Lance for about twenty years as a pastor, mentor, and family friend. Over that period I have witnessed him go through the many emotional ups and downs that are common to our mortal flesh. Uncommonly for our times, however, I have never seen Lance lose his passion for Jesus. This surely is the central message of his book; that the Church in America needs to return to her First Love.
This volume reverberates with all the classic biblical themes concerning the prophetic ministry: sowing and reaping, repentance from idolatry to turn away judgment, the danger of false prophets, and their alluring message of prosperity, compassionate care of the poor, the need for discerning the operation of evil powers, Christ the sole foundation, and so on.
Lance occupies the office of the watchman, and I am pleased to say he does it in the characteristic down to earth Aussie style that he has inherited from his godly ancestors. More than anything else I appreciate the fact that he has not avoided that greatest of temptations to which many genuine prophetic ministries have succumbed, avoiding the scandal of the cross. The highlight of the book, in my opinion, is the vulnerability with which our brother speaks of the personal tragedies of his own life. It is at this point that the power of the death of Jesus to meet us in our darkest places shines through most brightly.
In a time when the Lord is indeed shaking the nations, and the U.S.A. in particular, the message of Wake Up America
is timely indeed. May the heartfelt vision of God, Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not
(Mal. 3:18) go on to reach its fulfilment through the prophetic ministry of the words of this book.

Chapter 1
FIRST STEPS
And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Hab. 2:2-3)
This story starts back in 1983, as I fell into sleep I began to see myself traveling to the USA to preach the word of God. I also saw myself travel to Britain and South Africa. But this book focuses on America and what I experienced there. I also saw myself at this event preaching in a crowded auditorium where people were packed in like sardines. As I was speaking, I saw some people in the front of the crowd had missing arms, I reached out to them and as I did brand new limbs were recreated before my very eyes. As I was having this revelation, I knew I had an international ministry. This is one of my first encounters that stirred me towards the call of God.
When I was in my first year of Bible training in 1984, one of the students who had a house church invited me to come over on a Wednesday night. This was my first experience with the prophetic ministry. After a time of worship he called a few people out. First he called Roger, a fellow student, out and began to say that he was a Joshua and had a teaching ministry and that God would take him to the four corners of the earth to minister. Then he said, Will you come out Lance, you just keep that humility about you and I know that God’s going to raise you up.
He then proceeded to say, I pronounce the blessing Father in Jesus’ name. Thank you Father that you’re going to raise him up to be a mighty prophet of God. Your voice is going to cay and thunder with the proclamations of your God. I see you thought about a worldwide ministry, but then you doubted. God says get your vision big, you’re going to do it. You’re going to move in creative miracles and cast out devils and heal the sick.

VISION REVIVES
It wasn’t until many years later in 1998 that God began to stir the call again. I was in a unit at this time in Maylands, Perth when I was glancing at the beginning of the book of Jonah. It went like this: Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. (Jonah 1:2). God impressed on my heart New York City as the modern day equivalent to Nineveh. I suppose in some ways, like Jonah in Chapter 3. He was giving me another chance to fulfil the vision of 1983. At the time I was working at the Hyatt Regency in Perth doing window cleaning. I used to do the front windows of the La Strada café, which was near the entrance of the hotel. Apparently, God was working at reviving the call to the nations in my heart, but I was none the wiser to it. There was an old Bible college buddy who used to be on a bus that passed that way on his way to new way ministries, in the morning, where he was the director of Missions. According to Jeff, The Holy Spirit used to speak to him about me as he passed by and saw me. This is what he would hear. He’s meant to be in the nations,
and it was repeated. This went on for some time. He would think, I wonder why Lance is doing that job when he should be preaching the gospel to the nations.
So he asked God for an opportunity to share it with me. Now at this time I was serving God at a city church called City Church (CC) in Perth. I was a member of the worship and music team. Unbeknown to me God was getting the ball rolling in his purposes for me. I had been at this church since early 1997, and was quite happy serving God in the team there and didn’t want to go to any other church because I enjoyed the ministry there and felt no need to go any where else. This one particular Sunday morning, out of the blue Mark, who was one of the keyboard players, rang up and said, Would you like to go to new way ministries this morning?
I felt really good about it and said yes. At any rate we both weren’t on duty that morning at [CC].
Just before the service as we headed into new way, Jeff was there and said, Hey Lance, it’s very important that I catch up with you after the service.
So after the meeting he told me, You know it’s God who has drawn you here Lance.
To which I replied, You’re right, I never go to any other churches; this is out of character for me.
He asked me if I could catch up with him during the week for lunch; I have something very important to share with you,
he said, and we decided to meet up on Tuesday after work.
Chapter 3
TIMELY WORDS
At lunch on that Tuesday, he started with, Lance, God usually gives me hard words to share with people.
This didn’t exactly excite me of course. I wondered if this was a word of correction or something. He mentioned how he used to see me cleaning windows and wondered why I was doing that, as God kept speaking to his heart about how I was meant to be in the nations preaching the gospel. He then said, Now I understand you have been through a divorce and are faithfully fulfilling your obligations to pay child support and see your children. That would certainly explain it Lance. I have a hard word for you; trust God with your kids and obey him even though it hurts and go to the nations.
He gave me the Bible passage, And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life
