Preface
The idea for this book came as a result of reading diverse books, and often coming across quotes that I found instructive and inspirational. I thought it would be worthwhile to compile them and share with others. As Mattie Stepanek once said, Keep all special thoughts and memories for lifetimes to come. Share these keepsakes with others to inspire hope and build from the past, which can bridge to the future.
I have done my best to cite the authors of most of the quotes. However, others that I could not find the original sources are cited as ‘Author Unknown.’
Introduction
This book is a trove of wisdom that will motivate, inspire, and guide you. The quotes are taken from people of diverse backgrounds. The wisdom compiled here, and others have lifted my spirits, inspired, motivated, and guided me in challenging times.
It is a great pleasure to share, and I trust that you will find this book helpful. I hope that you will be inspired, motivated, and guided, just as it has done for me. As a great thinker, Rene Descartes once said, The reading of all good books is like conversation with the finest men of past centuries.
I suppose, reading this book, will be like conversation with the great minds quoted.
The writer L. Frank Baum also quipped, No thief, however skillful, can rob one of knowledge, and that is why knowledge is the best and safest treasure to acquire.
I am confident that the knowledge that would be acquired from reading these quotes would be an eternal treasure.
Why you should read this and other motivational books. A sage reminds us that, Inspirational quotes help us replenish the daily supply of the urge to do more, to achieve better results in any sphere of our lives.
Author Unknown. Oscar Wilde also posits, It is what you read when you don't have to, that determines what you will be, when you can't help it.
I cannot agree more with these thinkers. Inspirational quotes, motivate, and serve as therapy to help us through stressful moments.
Chapter 1: Dream
There is power in dreaming and imagination of the future we want to see and experience. The story of a poor Ghanaian girl epitomises the power of dreaming and believing. She recalls a moment that changed the trajectory of her life forever: I saw a picture of a girl with a graduation gown, and it was so beautiful. I didn’t understand what [the gown] was, but I knew it was linked to an education. So I got to work. I became a head porter, carrying heavy loads for people, for a paltry fee, and worked at a local market, where I dodged encounters of rape. I recall nights where I didn’t have a place to sleep, so I slept on filthy market grounds… I had to starve myself to save for school.
Teni Agana- A young Ghanaian Girl: From Head Porter to Award winning Graduate.
This poor girl imagined and dreamed of herself being in a graduation gown some day. She also believed that she too can achieve that goal. Thus, she was determined to achieve this dream against all odds. Her story confirms Napoleon Hill’s observation that, Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.
