Prologue
One cold, grey, cloud filled night, when the streets where lit with lampposts and all was empty, the only thing that was heard were heavy footsteps echoing off the buildings. Trembling with fear, Dr.Watso, head of the genetic research department in London, ran as fast as his legs would carry him. But he wasn’t fast enough. He ran into an alleyway. An iron fence blocked his path. He whimpered with fear as a figure stepped out of the shadows.
Please!
he begged I’ll do anything, please, just don’t kill me. I have a wife and kids!
He tried to make a desperate escape by climbing over the fence, but the figure pulled him down. Dr.Watso caught his first glimpse of his hunter. He had a metal hand and to his surprise his hunter looked younger than him.
You’re a teenager?
Dr.Watso exclaimed.
A single gunshot, that was all; Dr.Watso fell to the ground. Dead.
His killer gave a sly grin. He bent down, took the doctor’s wallet.
Now that wasn’t so hard was it?
the killer said slyly.
He walked away slowly laughing with such evil that it would make your worst nightmares tremble with fear.
Chapter 1
Lizzie Barret woke from a sleep she never wanted to have again. She couldn’t remember every detail, but she knew there was a man being slaughtered by a shadowy figure. She gazed at her alarm clock lazily. The time was 7:15. Lizzie looked around her darkened bedroom. It was quite a small room, the smallest room in the house. Her silver-grey curtains let in a bit of light; illuminating the room. In the corner was a desk with a lamp and several pieces of paper. At the foot of her bed a poster of her favourite band hung on her wall. Bookshelves covered almost all the room except the parts where she had selfies with friends from her previous school. Lizzie decided to get out of bed. Suddenly, there was a loud knocking at Lizzie’s bedroom door.
Get up Liz!
shouted Lizzie's twin, Lydia.
I am up you numbskull
answered Lizzie.
Just checking. Don't wanna be late on our first day in our new school.
That's right, Lizzie thought. It's our first day in St. Andrew’s Academy. Lizzie jumped out of bed, got dressed, washed then tied her brown hair into a plait and rushed downstairs for breakfast.
Walking swiftly, Lizzie entered the kitchen with her packed schoolbag that she placed on the table. Lydia emerged through the doorway in her new school uniform with her auburn hair in a ponytail. St. Andrew’s Academy uniform was:
Dark blue blazer
White collared shirt
Black and white tie
Blue trousers or skirt
Black socks or tights
Black shoes
So what's your plan for today?
asked Lizzie.
Dunno really,
replied Lydia make some new friends.
Same, but maybe not.
Why not?
asked Lydia.
It's our first day,
replied Lizzie.
So.
After breakfast their dad came downstairs.
Ready for your first day at school, today?
asked their dad.
Yes,
they both replied.
Lizzie and Lydia couldn't remember their mum as she died when they were very young. So for most of their lives their dad looked after them. Their dad scratched his bald head and said You two are growing up so fast, look at you, you’re 15. It seems only yesterday when you were only babies.
"Yeah dad but we need to get to school on time so could you let us pass? said Lizzie.
Oh yes sorry of course
. Sidestepping, dad opened the front-door and the twins walked through.
It took them longer than they expected to get to school because as soon as they got about halfway down their street, Lydia remembered that she forgot to ask for directions. So after a struggle of digging through Lydia’s bag for her phone and searching on Google maps on how to get to St. Andrew’s Academy, they finally made it to school.
At 8:15 they walked through the automatic doors of their new school and were surprised to see that there was only about two dozen people there. Lydia went off to a group of girls and started trying to make friends. The room they were in was large and had several benches to sit on. In the centre of the room there was a board with a map of the school, recent events and student information.
New here?
said a voice in Lizzie's ear, that made her scream.
Lizzie turned to see who had just scared her. It was a scruffy blond haired boy. Glasses lay on his nose and he was grinning at her cheekily.
What was that for?
Lizzie bellowed.
I just asked you a question,
he said.
You didn't need to shout in my ear though!
Sorry.
And yes I am new
replied Lizzie sternly.
The boy held out his hand for Lizzie to shake it and said Name’s Gabriel. Pleased to meet ya.
Lizzie shook his hand then said her name to Gabriel.
Gabriel, why are there hardly any people here?
Lizzie asked.
Well, school doesn't start till 8:45 so not many people come early because they wanna lie in or somein’. They normally arrive at 8:35 I’d say or later
Gabriel replied.
So why are you here so early then?
asked Lizzie.
Well I could ask the same question to you but me, well let's say I couldn't get to sleep last night.
Gabriel do you have any siblings?
Nope, just me; what about you, you got siblings?
Lizzie pointed over her shoulder to Lydia who was talking to a girl a head smaller than her. They looked like they were talking the latest styles or something.
Suddenly someone shouted Oi Gabriel!
Both Lizzie and Gabriel turned to see who it was.
Three boys who looked like they went to the gym every day and had the brains the size of walnuts were strutting over to them. They came over in a triangle. The front boy, probably the leader, had ginger curly hair, freckles and was holding a basketball. The boy on the left had scruffy black hair that covered his eyes from sight and had rolled up his sleeves. The left one had blond hair and looked like he was trying to grow a moustache.
Who are they?
asked Lizzie.
Middle is Stuart Armstrong, left is Freddie Kurly and right is Michael Mercury. The school bullies
Stuart came up to Gabriel and lifted him up by the shirt. So four-eyes found yourself a girlfriend ‘ave ya. Not very pretty one though
Stuart said laughing.
Lizzie stared at him hard as he said that.
Gimme all the money you ‘ave in your pockets!
Surprisingly Gabriel seemed calm about this, and then suddenly a hand tapped Stuart on the shoulder.
Hay why don't you pick on someone your own size?
said an angry voice. Stuart turned around so Lizzie could see who had challenged him.
A strong looking boy with short brown hair was standing behind Stuart, the other bullies back-to-back lying on the ground holding their stomachs.
Stuart threw Gabriel down on the ground, knocking his glasses off, and stepped towards the boy.
You wanna fight mate?
asked Stuart.
Yah, just don't hurt my friend,
answered the boy.
Stuart made the first punch but the boy dodged. Next the boy threw a punch and landing it in Stuart's chest.
Fight, fight, fight!
some other pupils who had come to watch the fight chanted intently. Clenching the pain in his chest, Stuart threw another punch at the boy. The boy blocked it. One final blow in the face and Stuart fell backwards onto the ground.
Oi Gabriel, this bloody bodyguard isn't gonna keep ya safe forever ya know.
Stuart got up and limped off to a bench with the other bullies. All the spectators of the fight had gone away back to their own conversations again.
Thanks Max,
said Gabriel giving the boy a high-five.
What gives?
continued Gabriel confused, you were 1.65 seconds late, I thought we had a routine?
I was late because I left my iPhone at home and had to pick it up again,
replied Max.
Who's this,
Max asked pointing at Lizzie.
I’m Lizzie, this is my first day here as I have just moved house from London.
Suddenly Lydia butted in saying, Lizzie I saw the fight, were you in it?
Lizzie shook her head.
Well that's good
Lydia looked around at Gabriel and Max. And you said you weren't going to go looking for friends yet.
Shut up!
Lizzie hissed angrily though her teeth.
What class are you in Liz?
asked Lydia.
Miss O’Glenny,
she replied.
Unlucky…
said Max.
Why?
asked Lizzie and Lydia together.
You’ll have to put up with Gabriel
said Max pointing at Gabriel.
Well I'm in Mr. Drowsy’s class
said Lydia.
Ha
pointing at Max, Gabriel laughed, your with brute strength here.
At 8:45 the four friends walked their separate ways. With some guidance from Gabriel, Lizzie got to her classroom (class 10G) and got in on time. As everyone arrived they all sat in their seats Lizzie’s seat was revealed. She sat down in the chair behind Gabriel. On her right a pretty girl fussing with her hair. Behind her a boy with hair over his face and had obviously his nose pierced and to her left a window showing the tennis and football courts. Lizzie listened and watched taking in as much as she could around her.
The girl on her right was saying, Like O.M.G, Riley is so cute I totally have a crush on him.
A blonde haired girl who obviously was the girls friend said Oh my gosh you need to ask him out!
On the other side of the class Lizzie could see a boy leaning over a girls chair. The boy swept back his brown hair and seemed to be trying to flirt with the
