    A Shared Secret

    The clock on the bedside table said 2:00am. Closing her eyes she sighed heavily.

    Emma had been awake for an hour already and was no nearer sleep.  Wondering what to do with herself at this unearthly hour,  she made her way downstairs to make a hot drink, which might help.

    She dragged herself out of bed carefully, so as not to wake her husband, who seemed to be oblivious to anything. Pulling her dressing gown around her shoulders, she tied it in the middle, sinking her feet into the pink fluffy slippers at the side of the bed. She opened the bedroom door and went downstairs slowly. On reaching the kitchen door she pushed it open and reached for the light switch. The stark light made her blink for a few moments. She picked up the kettle, filled it with water and plugged it in. Leaning back on the worktop Emma thought about the day which had just ended.

    It had been a wonderful, wonderful day. She smiled just thinking about it and her cheeks flushed red. She pulled the dressing gown collar up round her neck, even though she wasn’t cold. Standing there in the kitchen, she waited
