About this ebook

This novel is not so much a diary of edited events and my personal opinions as it is a food for thought novel about life experienced and seen from different perspectives. From the spiritual to the physical in terms of experiences. From the religious to the secular in terms of mindset as it relates to and affect mankind.
It also touches the issue of race. The human race as a whole and the modern version of the battle between the races, as well as the battle for the minds of man. It is an interconnected battle that is more about supremacy then it is of equality. A battle not so much about the color of the skin but the spirit that resides within.

    May 29 – August 28, 2014

    Prologue

The bare necessities of life minus purchasing power is equivalent to the aroma of poverty. It stinks. Money they say is the root of all evil. But in the absence of the barter System money becomes a necessity in which case even the spiritually ‘chosen’ must seek avenues of sustenance in the physical world.

Today is Thursday, the 29th day of the month of May in the year A.D. 2014. It is a damp, grayish day and the rain outside my bedroom window argues with itself in sprouts and showers. As I lay writing, my body reclining upon two mattresses, my head resting on three pillows, glancing out of my window now and then, I envision the world curved, round and flat. In translation, I look at the world from different perspectives.

When round, the world is a football. Hallow and shallow.Sky looking down on earth and vice versa.

Depending on the angles from which it is bounced.

When flat, it is motionless. A terrain that seems to go on forever but has its’ limits.

When curved, the world shifts and fluctuates precariously. Like a baby's cradle rocked by an aggressive hand.

In short, the world is not solid. Does not go on forever and is never still. Every day dawns with some form of change. The only constant is the certainty that we all live to die. And that is a certainty that many would much rather avoid. Despite the fact that immortality probably comes at the price of boredom, many would happily pay in haste and eternally regret in leisure.

Welcome to my   world. My name is Zoe-younoh. I am the water woman. I am one of the unwillingly chosen.

    Chapter 1

Chosen? Why and for what reason or purpose I cannot say for sure. All I do know is that it involves carrying a yoke. A yoke characterized by turmoil and rifts as if it lives solely by the principle of 'divide and conquer’. Its idea of a blessing seems to come in ways quite contrary to the definition of a blessing. And totally at the expense of those who thrive to do the right things. Every day is a battle to keep at bay its' destructive hand. I am weary of the burden.

I am an African, a Liberian from West Africa, to be precise. I come from a family of six. Siblings, that is. Four females and two males, each with character strengths and flaws that define them as individuals.

My elder sister is quiet with an inner strength. A gentle lady with a feisty spirit that she keeps in extreme check. She is very rarely easily angered. She does not give her opinion easily. She weighs her words and actions before giving them life.

My second elder sister is the opposite of her. She is feisty and does not hesitate to give her opinion. My late father had hoped she would channel her feistiness into a career as a lawyer. But she chose another path…Or perhaps life chose it for her.

My younger sister defines character. She too does not hesitate to share her views and is very, very protective and defensive of the people and things that matter to her.

My elder brother, third in line in my immediate family ranking stands on a path carved solely by his own hands in ways that defy logic.

My younger  brother likes the spotlight. He shines when he is the center of attention. But at times appears to dread it. He carries the yoke of being considered the favored child. A yoke he appears to resent at times.

I am the fourth child. The third daughter and the one who once took pleasure in trouble shooting at the expense of her own interests. I am at times accused of being tactless, thanks to my tendency to be blunt with the truth. I like to think that my path has never been carved ahead of me in terms of spirit. That in-spite of circumstances, my spirit holds constant.  That I am as I was meant to be from creation - With a little shake, rattle and roll here and there.

Perhaps that is the reason I was given the yoke that now weighs so heavily on me.

    Chapter 2

The day is June 1st, 2014. It is a Sunday. A day known in history as the day of worship of the sun God, but later converted to the worship of the Christian God.
