I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me.
Without you, I don’t know where I would be.
Case 3 – Of Love and Politics
When the white haired man visited the seven siblings at their apartment, President Jeremiah Kroz didn’t have his usual smile. Frowning, Jeremiah stepped off of the elevator. The first person he saw was Dante in the living room watching television. Dante?
Sir,
Dante replied. He jumped off of the couch. Fumbling with the remote, he muted the television.
Smiling briefly, Jeremiah nodded. Hello Dante. I have work for you.
I’ll get my brothers.
Dante tossed the remote on the couch.
Thank you.
Jeremiah chuckled as Dante sprinted off. He made himself comfortable on the couch.
As the family joined him, Nartana spoke, It’s good to see you, sir. How are things?
Jeremiah smiled weakly. I’m afraid things aren’t going so well.
Nartana lifted his hand before the others could speak. What do you mean?
he asked.
There has been some trouble with the bosses. I need you to watch them during the meeting we are going to have. Try and find out what’s wrong.
I’ll go,
said Trevet.
I hoped you would.
Jeremiah chuckled. Nothing against the others, but you will fit right in.
I’ll pack my bag.
The redheaded man stood. He walked over to his room.
Nartana watched him, then looked at Jeremiah. For my own sake, I’d like to know what’s going on.
I wish I could tell you, but I can’t.
Shaking his head, Jeremiah stood. I’ll wait for Trevet downstairs.
I’ll tell him,
Mikasi piped up.
Thank you.
Jeremiah played with Mikasi’s hair then left the apartment.
Frowning while he watched, Nartana folded his arms across his chest. He didn’t speak until Trevet exited his room. Be careful.
Of course,
replied Trevet. With a slight grin, he lifted his hand in a wave. Then he went out of the apartment into the elevator. Riding down the outside elevator, he scanned the streets.
Watching from his car window, Jeremiah smiled. Everything was going well so far. As long as it continued, his prosperity would skyrocket.
Trevet stepped out of the elevator. With a large briefcase in hand, he walked over to the limousine. He nodded to the driver. Opening the back door, he climbed in beside President Kroz.
Let’s go,
he said.
The driver took the limousine deep into Central City. The middle of the city was laid out in a circular pattern. Within the very central circle the streets turned to a grid pattern. In the most central part was a single tower that covered four city blocks. A quarter of each floor was reserved for the corresponding outer quadrant. The very top floor was reserved for the leader of Central City, President Jeremiah Kroz.
At the bottom of the tall tower, Jeremiah and Trevet walked into the lobby. No one stopped them. They entered the elevator and went up to the top floor.
Sighing softly, Jeremiah tugged on his red tie. I can’t wait to sit down.
He loosened the knot. Exiting the elevator he went straight through the lobby to the leader’s door.
Standing quickly, the secretary said, Welcome back, Mr. Kroz.
Thank you,
Jeremiah replied. Smiling faintly, he headed straight back into the office. He had a view over the entire city. The view was unblocked above his office. His desk was in the northern quarter. A second desk was in the east. A couch was to the west. There was an unobstructed view to the south. Jeremiah dropped his coat on the couch then flopped into the chair behind his desk. Ah,
he sighed, It feels good to sit.
Trevet walked to the second desk. Sitting there, he folded his coat over the back of the chair. I can only imagine.
Jeremiah chuckled. There’s going to be a lot of sitting with your assignment. Are you ready for it?
Shrugging, Trevet replied, Whether I am or not, I’ll do it.
You’re always so serious.
Jeremiah shook his head. But back to business.
He pulled open the top drawer in his desk. "At dinner you’ll meet the four bosses of the outer lands.
