- Living here (isn’t so bad)
Hi there. Welcome to life. I’m sure you need no introduction. You have your human body, I have mine. We’ve got our issues, our dreams, and feelings. And then both of us live on the only planet in the known universe that supports life. We’re both very lucky in that sense.
You’re reading this, or at least you understand me in some sense. While others may not be able to read, you have the ability and the time for reading. No harm there and you’re even luckier in that sense. Not all of us have this luxury of reading, for reasons that could be unknown even to them. Sometimes the world just seems so unfair this way doesn’t it? By mere circumstance we have it better than others. Or others have it better than us. It just doesn’t seem fair does it? There is so much suffering in the world. The suffering in your life is just so inherent isn’t it? Doesn’t it seem like no matter what, you’re going to suffer and struggle in life? Can we just expect suffering to happen as long we live?
What if instead, suffering was an illusion? What if all the suffering in the world was the illusion that we as a people, have put upon ourselves? If it’s an illusion, then we can remove it from our lives.
Don’t be mistaken, the illusion is very real. Suffering does happen, and it does suck. But suffering is not inherent within the universe. It is the illusion our bodies, our senses and our views have made for us. Suffering is not natural. The illusion is that we believe it is, in our belief, we have created it for ourselves. It’s nothing more than an illusion.
Think of it as well...an illusion. You see or experience one thing, and then really it is another entirely. The illusion is very well real, it’s right there. But it is not true. It’s a magician’s trick of our minds. On stage the magician plays a trick on people, making believe that his assistant was cut in half. You can see it, and I’m sure you could go up and even touch the box, but it’s a lie. It’s a lie we perpetuate to ourselves, and it’s a lie that our mind brings to justify why things are the way they are. We do it to ourselves, and we do it to others. While we may have to struggle with our bodies and in society, we have it in ourselves to make things pleasant, almost immediately if we truly wanted to.
But just how can something be real, yet not true? Look at anything else anyone has ever made. Things such as cities and stories are all real, only because they have come from human persistence. With our power of creation, we made the world we know, and world we know is real to us and any other human. However the universe we are in, the universe that is true allows us the power to make such things real. We have this power of creating because we are in this universe. And this suffering may have been the first thing humanity ever created. After all, if it were not for the suffering of our ancestors, we wouldn’t be where we are today. This suffering was created by our minds so long ago so we would naturally evolve. It’s not even inherent for other living things, for other living things can adapt entirely to their environment, only growing if other forces allow it to grow. Yet this is not the case with humans, for Life meant for us to grow beyond nature. Humanity was given Mind, and yet it is our minds today that cause suffering within ourselves.
Of course, there are social forces and others that cause suffering. Yet we can break free from these and we can develop a resistance when we understand that things don’t have to be the way they seem. The truth is that it’s all changing, it is indiscriminate, and nothing is ever permanent. Suffering is not something inherent, it is created. We all create it in ourselves by virtue of being human, but it can be ceased, for we were human when we created it. Suffering comes from mind, and mind gives it because it unconsciously and naturally wants you to be your best. In our efforts to minimize our suffering, we will learn grow and develop as humans. The trouble is that suffering can stunt our efforts, and our mind can fall into perpetual misery. When we recognize the suffering for what it is, we start seeing where we can be free.
People are in pain every day, and from this pain people will create suffering. You are in pain, something is wrong. Some would even call that a survival mechanism. Yet this pain, while inherent in the body, does not have to be inherent in mind. It is in our minds that suffering has a place. Because our minds are from this universe, we can create it and make it real. To bring our minds into the universe here and now, not only defeats suffering, but allows for creation.
In a myriad of ways, we are shown how connected we are. The clothes, the minds, and the bodies may be different, but ultimately we are life, in reality always human. And it’s often perceptions we fall into, where life can seem ultimately unfair. Yet who’s to say what is really suffering, and what isn’t? You are placed somewhere in the world by default, at birth, always meant to struggle with a body and age with it. Yet from here, while the struggle varies, we allow it to give way to suffering, either from ourselves or others. In reality, we are responsible for the thoughts and the energy we bring into a situation. While we often worry about what we are trying to bring out, we overlook that fact that all we not bringing in what we are looking to receive. The energy we bring, whether it’s angry, calm, positive or negative, will be what comes out of situation. It falls along the same lines of karma, in that we are not rewarded for good or bad actions, but rather we bring about good or bad from our actions. Whether or not there is karma is not the issue, the trouble being that every action has a consequence. The universe brings balance to all things, yet the intent we carry behind
