About this ebook

Homeschooling can be a joyful adventure of faith, or it can be a stressful experience. The difference depends not on the circumstances you are facing, but rather on whether or not you are thinking according to God's point of view. In "Stress-free Homeschooling: 31 Days to a Healthier Way of Thinking", there are 31 daily devotionals that will bring your thinking into line with God's thoughts, resulting in faith-rest, peace, and joy rather than anxiety and discouragement. It has been written specifically to encourage homeschooling mothers, but others have found it helpful as well.
The author, Laura Hum, lives with her husband in Montreal, Quebec. They are the parents of four children, and they began their homeschooling journey in 1993. In this book, she shares the truths that the Lord has blessed her with while homeschooling her own children.

    PREFACE

If you’re a homeschooling mother, you’re on a wonderful adventure of faith that will reap great rewards for you and your children in the long run.  But, sometimes the process is difficult.  You’ve probably had those moments when you feel stressed out and ready to quit. This devotional book was written to help you through those times.

Let me say first of all that stress is avoidable. Adversity, or difficulties that arise in our lives beyond our control, is inevitable, and indeed beneficial to us.  Stress, however, is neither inevitable nor beneficial.  It comprises harmful emotional and physiological changes that result from an incorrect response to adversity (e.g. anxiety, depression, anger, headaches, fatigue, etc.).

Stress-free homeschooling can be defined as a homeschooling experience characterized by healthy emotions such as faith-rest, joy, and the peace of God.  It is the result of thinking correctly with God.  Wrong thinking leads to negative emotions; right thinking (according to God’s Word) leads to healthy emotions.

The Lord does not want his children to be under stress.  In Matthew 11:28, he invites all who labour and are heavy laden to come to him, and he will give us rest.  In Hebrews 4:9-11, he speaks of entering into his rest. We are told that the kingdom of God is characterized by righteousness, peace and joy in Romans 14:17. In 1 Peter 5:7, we are exhorted to cast all our cares upon him, for he cares for us. And in John 8:32, we are told that the truth of God’s word will set us free.  The more our thinking lines up with God’s Word, the better equipped we will be to handle adversity and the healthier our emotions will be.

I invite you to read these devotionals and meditate on the suggested scripture verses.  In doing so, you will be replacing negative thoughts with the powerful truths of God’s Word.  The more established you become in these truths, the healthier your thinking, and thus your emotions, will be.  You will be more relaxed as you face difficulties, because your focus will be in the right place.  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:  because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3)

May the Lord renew your mind and bless you
