Profile of the author
Born in Scotland I now live with my husband in the North West of England. We have three children who, between them have given us six wonderful grandchildren.
I studied commercial subjects at school and college and spent most of my working life in the offices of various companies, starting as a junior in a local garage typing invoices for car repairs. I left Scotland and crossed the border to England to marry the man I met whilst on a holiday with my extended family and eventually became a secretary with a beer bottling company leaving six years later when the first of our three children came on the scene.
Returning to the workforce when our children were young adults I finally untied the apron strings to join the offices of a large wholesale book supplier and embraced the advancement in technology since I had first learned to type on a manual typewriter and take notes in shorthand.
During the years I became something of a letter writer as friends and family lived in many parts of the country and indeed the world. Often friends and family would tell me…..‘You could write a book’ to which I always replied…..‘But would anyone read it’.
When my granddaughter asked if I would write a book especially for her I confided in my good friend Lisa Schmidt and she told me to go for it. That book became the first of many stories which had been lurking in my imagination for a good number of years.
Once started I found the stories simply kept coming and often an overheard conversation or a glimpse from the passenger seat of the car would trigger a likely scenario which my imagination would then elaborate and weave into a story.
My hope is that my writing brings a little pleasure into the life of my readers and allows them to leave the mundane world behind for a few hours as they meet the characters I adore creating.

Dedication
In my profile I always thank my good friend Lisa Schmidt for her support and it is with gratitude I dedicate this story to her as she helped me over a writers’ block which caused me several sleepless nights.
All characters in this book have no existence outside the imagination of the author and have no relation whatsoever to anyone bearing the same name or names. They are not even distantly inspired by any individual known or unknown to the author and all the incidents are pure invention.

Chapter 1
‘Cyril we need to think of something drastic to bring those two grandchildren of ours together.’ Bertie Cummings was sitting in his favourite chair in the Wentworth Gentleman’s Club.
‘It won’t be easy Bertie. Dorry is not exactly the type of woman Morgan usually associates with. I mean, she is an attractive young woman but is not exactly a social animal. Her life revolves around building up the hotels her parents acquire and her latest assignment has her incarcerated deep in the countryside trying to turn a Georgian Mansion into the Enfield Country Hotel and Spa.’ Cyril Gledhill loved his granddaughter and like his best friend and business partner he thought a marriage between her and Morgan Cummings would be advantageous to both young people.
Of course it would also benefit their business as the marriage would keep their extremely lucrative travel agency and the hotel chain his son-in-law owned within the control of both families.
‘How about this new hotel and Spa Dorry is trying to get off the ground, we could send Morgan there to check out the viability of reserving rooms for our new brochure.’ Bertie suggested.
‘No it has to be more subtle otherwise Morgan will simply arrive and assess the rooms and put in his report when he returns. We need to have an excuse for him to remain in the hotel for more than a weekend.’ Cyril closed his eyes trying to rack his brain for a good excuse to send his friend’s grandson to the hotel his granddaughter was determined to bring to a high standard.
‘I have it! We need to contact Anne and Tony and ask them to come to the office on Monday morning.’ Bertie seemed extremely pleased with himself as he sat back in his chair raising his glass of brandy to his lips.
‘I take it you have a plan forming inside year head?’ Cyril shook his own head knowing his friend and business partner was unlikely to reveal his plan until he had worked out all the wrinkles and was sure it would work.
‘Call your daughter and ensure her and her husband are in our office on Monday morning by which time I shall have worked out all the details and be ready to put our case to Morgan.
Not sure how to approach his daughter and son-in-law with no solid reason for asking them to come to the office Cyril pulled out his mobile phone and pressed the quick dial number before he could change his mind.
‘Hello darling I hope you and Tony are well?’
‘We are both well, thank you Dad.’ Anne Enfield answered warily knowing her father would be ensconced in his favourite chair within his Club and usually it would take a major event for him to break his do not disturb
attitude.
‘Wonderful. I suddenly thought I hadn’t seen you both for such a long time and thought I would make sure you were both well.’ Cyril knew his reason for calling was feeble but on the spur of the moment he could not think of a reasonable excuse to be speaking to his daughter.
‘Now you have got that off your chest perhaps you can tell me the real reason for calling?’ Anne laughed.
‘Very well dear. Bertie and I would like you and Tony to come to the office on Monday morning. We have something very important to discuss with you both.’ Cyril hoped his daughter would not ask what was so important.
‘Okay Dad we will see you around ten on Monday morning.’ Anne ended the call and turned to her husband. ‘Those two are up to something.’
Tony looked at his wife unsure exactly what she meant. ‘Which two would that be, dear?’
‘Dad and Bertie. They want us to go to their office on Monday morning to discuss something important. Do you think they are thinking of retiring?’ Anne said thoughtfully.
‘Even if
