    Urgent…! Urgent…!

To the childhood of grown-ups, especially the childhood of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Now that I’m writing this letter, the brightest star of the sky blinked its last blink, and just disappeared, and this means that I’ve spent another busy night. The sunshine is brightening everywhere any minute now, and thousands of thousands of grown-ups are going to wake up from their sound sleep in order to start their noisy competition. Since this letter is extremely urgent, no way can it wait until tomorrow or a few more days, and  I hope it will be done, while there is peace and quiet, and it means just before the morning dawns.

    One day…

    Once a man asked me:

Hey kid! What are you going to be in future?

    I thought with myself:

Again that usual question; the one that grown-ups have a great interest in asking . Since they think they are the only ones who have important jobs, they ask you a lot too…! Don’t they? Then what ever you answer, because they aren’t sure their height is enough to look down on you, they stand on a stool and start to preach and talk and talk and talk:

What you are saying is not right, one must be that way and not this way…

and tons of other instructions. Because unlike us, they don’t and don’t mind their own business and they really like to poke their nose into other’s thoughts. But even this, is not the end of the story. They speak so quickly that you don’t get a word in edgeways, and then they puff out their chin and ask:

What happened? Why are you silent then?

And again without giving you a chance to open your mouth, they stare at you with…with begging eyes, and say with great selfishness:

So did you see that I am right? See?

Oh my God, those begging eyes and this selfish tone! Then you can’t be so unkind to say no to those begging eyes. Besides you don’t have time for these grown up speeches, so you just nod your head and say yes…!  Yes… yes you are right!

And then you see their eyes get filled with the happiness and pride, that they really try to hide, so that they will seem more recognizable, as they always say, and others will say in high voice:

    Oh my God…! What a wise person…!

Then and only then they come down from their stool, and let you go… And then perhaps they sit on a chair, and in their solitude think about how knowledgeable they are and encourage themselves again and again.

Unlike us they think that they know everything, and this, causes them lots of failures in their lives. You know? life is not that kind, but you can clasp your arms around its shoulder and make it your friend, don’t you think so? Have a cup of hot drink, think about it for a while, and then if you were interested, read the rest of the story!

I was thinking about these when he asked his question again and this time with a harsh tone:

Hey kid! I said, what are you going to be? Don’t answer quickly! Give it a lot of thought, and see what you like to do, then, tell me. Did you understand?

I didn’t need to think much about it, because I had already had a job! At least one much more important than his job, however, in order not to hurt his feelings, I
